Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I've got a VW Passat.....the wife has a Saturn Vue. I just got a job at her company so we can commute together. That move alone will save us nearly $300 a month. We will probably end up selling one of our cars in the coming months simply because we won't need it anymore. _________________ "With man gone will there be hope for gorilla? Two. One Dodge Durango (for the horses/kids) and Dodge Intrepid, both paid off. Hubby drives Intrepid.
Just by combining trips and simply reducing driving, I've already cut down an average of 40 miles a week and it really has impacted my life very little. I've been tracking mileage for about 2 months.
Now waiting to finish saving for a down payment on a more gas efficient car since the Durango is not worth much (it's 9 years old). I love the space of the Durango but hate the poor gas mileage.

One. 2005 Chevy Malibu, paid off. Driven on average once a week for groceries, errands, etc. I work from home. I'm more concerned with what will happen to the cost of electric than the price of gasoline. I can find a way to manage without a vehicle. No electric would be much more of a challenge. _________________ Live simply, love generously, care deeply, and speak kindly.

We are a 2 car family (two adults and one kid), but we are trying to sell one....so it sits as we either ride the bikes or drive the 98' New Beetle.
I would like to soon say we are a 7 bike family with a car we use for trips out of town.

I have a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup (4 x 4). I recently traded in a 1993 F-150 for it. I drive less than 5,000 miles per year.
My companion drives a Ford Focus. Just a little bug he's put 138,000 miles on so far.
My mother owns a 2002 Toyota Maxima with 45,000 miles on it. She can barely drive, and when she can't anymore we'll sell it and not replace it.
At some point I see our little oddball tribe getting down to one, shared vehicle. _________________ "Actually, humans died out long ago."

1 Opel Astra Coupe, turbocharged It's very very fast an comfortable. I get an average of 25 mpg (combined). I don't comute (I work at home) so gas prices don't have such a huge impact on me. I easily get 30 mpg, outside the city ...
Gotta love german technology.
It's spacious with a lot of cool things (climate control, heated seats, leather interiori, etc). It can go from 0 to 60 in 7 seconds, and has a top speed of ... little over 150 mph. (I drove it at 130 mph). _________________ capitalism *is* fun | crude oil price

Three
1999 Ford Galaxy 2.3 litre petrol, 25mpg. 7 seat family car.
Av miles/year 5000
1996 Volkswagen Polo Saloon, 1.6 litre petrol, 38mpg, 5 seat saloon
Av miles/year 2000
1973 Rover 3.5 Litre saloon. 20mpg Classic car (bought 1982)
Av miles/year 500. Too nice to sell, to expensive to run.
Will keep all for as long as possible.
Eventual replacement will (may !!) be one 6 seat eurobox, with the max mpg possible.
As we all know, after fuel costs depreciation is the killer. Hence I plan to keep my cars as long as is practical.
Also we all have (and use) a bike each.
FWIW most of my neighbours have 2 cars. Mostly small eurobox types. Only 1 SUV in all area. Interesting to note that car size on drives round here has noticably decreased in the last few years.

For the last 18 years my only vehicle has been a 4x4 Toyota pickup. (not the same truck that whole time...)
The current truck is a 94 and I've had it about 3 years.
But just this week I took possession of a second vehicle -- a 94 Geo Metro.
(I also own a non-op Geo that is a parts car, and I'm shared owner of another non-op vehicle that we're trying to sell.)
I work three part-time jobs in three different towns, and drive about 200 miles per week getting there and back plus the Saturday farmer's market.
The Geo will double or possibly triple my fuel efficiency!
(and yes, all paid for, of course!) _________________ "... among the ways available in which a man can die, it is a rare and signal distinction to be killed by a leopard."

one ford focus diesel estate soon to be converted to veg oil.
this is the only family car and gets used for work/personal/holidays although only average 12,000 per year for that lot.
wife doesn't drive so uses public transport.
one son walks to school and the older one gets the bus (bus travel for under 18's is free in england and also if your over 60 or disabled)
i need a vehicle for cleaning contracting so i would have to drive whatever the cost of oil. at least being self-employed i can claim it as a business expense.

hmm, to me that's 4% ?
Doh! Yeah you’re right! That was just a test to see you will really reading it! But 4% is still no where as many that will be off the road when it goes to the inevitable $7 and $9 in the near future. _________________ Skeptical scrutiny in both Science and Religion is the means by which deep thoughts are winnowed from deep nonsense-Carl Sagan

We have one car for the family which stands mostly around, something economic Japanese we were fortunate to buy it very cheap.
But I would be happy to share it with someone in the neighbourhood, but here everyone has his or her own car. Cars don't become better standing around especially without garage in our climate.

We have 1 Car, a 2001 Corolla. We used to have 2 Corollas, but after the other one was trashed in an accident, we decided not to replace it. At the moment we are sharing 1 car. We might go back to 2 cars in the future. _________________ The oil barrel is half-full.

Four. I drive a 98 Ford Ranger with the 3.0 V-6. My wife drives a 98 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 V-6. We have two 2006 Suzuki motorcycles. I ride a M109R (1800cc), she rides a M50 (800cc).
I have one old Bianchi bicycle, mainly used for exercise, mounted on a resistance roller device in the garage. Yes I use it to to three times a week, about 20 miles each time. If I had a job closer to home, I would ride it to work. But 20 miles each way is a bit much, especially given the ever-changing Oklahoma weather.
The rest of the time I use a Honda SH125i motorscooter, at least daily. 100 to 125 MPG according to load and how it's driven. Good acceleration off the line and cruises nicely at 50mph. Can do 60, but I prefer not to for the sake of fuel economy. Getting from A to B in urban driving is significantly faster on the scooter, and it's much easier to find parking, especially in Spain, where the attitude to parking is somewhat casual, to say the least!
