Electric Auto maker Poised to Shock Auto Industry
| Quote: | | Sometime over the next several weeks, a privately-held and ultra-secretive company named EEStor Inc. based in Cedar Park, Texas is expected to release the results of independent third-party testing of its electrical energy storage unit, which aims to replace the electrochemical batteries we now use in everything from hybrid cars to laptop computers. EEStor says its system, combining battery and ultracapacitor technology and based on modified barium titanate ceramic powder, could power a car for 400 kilometres with regular performance. It claims the unit would charge in a few minutes and weigh less than 10% of current lead-acid batteries for the same cost. |

Great.
Too bad they didn't think to apply for a patent.

With a name like that, I guess we can say that PO.com just got another cornucopian board member. Just what the doctor ordered. |

So we have a winner who will get the 300 million dollar price Mc Cain offered for a better battery.
What a coincidence. |

Starting price in US will about $35,000 before tax, license, dealer markup, etc. Probably at least $40,000 out the door. Oh yeah, great deal on an overpriced electric go-cart. I wonder how many bankrupt, tapped-out Americans will be able to afford one. |

Any reasonable estimation of the energy situation tells us that we won't be driving cars powered by anything in the next decade and beyond. We are moving from a period of ultra cheap abundant energy (in which we can squander on pushing millions & millions of heavy boxes over long distances) to a period where we won't. In order for us to have an electric fleet, as a reasonable fraction of the size of the current ICE fleet, we must keep the current system running for 20 years from the point of mass production of EVs. If there is oil scarcity in the next 10 years then the flow of cars on the roads will dwindle and all car production will grind to halt. And even if we were able to move into EVs before oil declines, there is no guarantee that there will be abundant electricity to run those cars beyond the oil age. It is likely that we will have trouble keeping all the other essential uses for electricity running. |

And ask for a new planet as well.
I got to think that if you accumulate some fissionable uranium and live close to a nuclear reactor that an EV is very practical. But I don't think it will scale otherwise. Long term, none of this is sustainable anyway, especially in a MadMax world. |

The electric car promises always have me wondering WHERE they are going to get the increased electricity demand caused by everyone plugging in their cars. The grid is over taxed now in the USA and i work for the railroad hauling coal and we are maxed out on hauling any more. We cant put any more trains on the tracks to coal plants to make more electricity.
I know nuclear power is our future but long ways off. |

Oh happy day. We're saved!
This is even better than the idea about sending giant spaceships to Jupiter in order to extract methane.
