|
|
In a recent article, I learned that the state of California will begin requiring 'global warming score' stickers on your car's windshield.
Not simply a measurement of smog emissions or mpg, this is a calculation using those numbers to determine, on a scale of 1-10, the vehicle's impact on global warming.
Is this going to make a difference to consumers and auto owners? Isn't it always the bottom line (the wallet) that hits consumers, ie the price of fuel right now? Are Californians going to be seen as outlandish in adding this sticker? Will mandating it raise awareness of our personal contribution to climate change via our autos?
Why do you gals and guys think? |

Consumers care about total operating cost. The other stuff is election material. Can't wait for the road kill sticker. 1-10 based on the number of animals it kills. Obviously peak oilers want the highest kill score for food purposes. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

Global warming may be good for us. We wont have much fuel to heat our homes, so at least we wont freeze to death as much in a warmer climate.
Have you ever thought about how much your homes are dependent on natural gas for cooking, heating and hot water? Well, we will run out of natural gas in the next few decades, just after have we depleted our crude supplies.

If the people gave a damn in the first place they would research before buying anyway. _________________ Tired of high gas prices? Then stop driving to work, duh..... Learn to Work from home

I suspect its about revenue. First get the stickers on then add a surcharge for parking, toll roads, etc based on your GW number...

California to shame the owners of gas-guzzlers
| Quote: |
As if sky-rocketing petrol prices weren't already hurting them enough, the drivers of America's fleet of Hummers, monster trucks, and gas-guzzling SUVs are about to suffer sustained public humiliation, courtesy of the green lobby.
The state of California has announced plans for all new vehicles to carry "global warming" stickers next to their number plate, giving car owners – and their fellow motorists – an instant assessment of their carbon footprint.
Under the scheme, which became law this week, a "global warming score" and "smog score" of between one and 10 will appear on green information labels. The higher each score, the more environmentally friendly the car.
In the short term, authorities hope to help consumers choose vehicles with low carbon footprints. In the longer term, it is designed to turn SUV driving into a social taboo on a par with smoking cigarettes. "This label will arm consumers with the information they need to choose a vehicle that saves gas, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and helps fight smog all at once," said Mary Nichols, chairman of the California Air Resources Board. "Consumer choice is an especially powerful tool in our fight against climate change."
Green stickers are expected to start appearing later this month. New York has its own version of the labelling scheme due to take effect in 2010. |

| Wouldn't it be great for the environment if we ditch all the old guzzlers we have and buy new prii? |

If every fanboy bought a Prius right now, the world supply of iron would be exhaused & China would have to be nuked to destroy all the toxic manufacturing waste.
FYI, stickers for low emission vehicles have been around since emissions were the big thing. Now that global warming is big, it's probably a sticker for a low global warming vehicle. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

This is different. Read the article. It says all new vehicles will be rated on a scale of 1-10. 1 being the worst and 10 being the best, hence targets for enviro-nut vandalism. _________________ Now why didn't I think of that? |

All you have to do is buy a decal saying you've bought carbon offsets, just like Al Gore.
If a rich environmentalists like Al Gore can fly around in a private jet and claim he isn't hurting the environment because he buys carbon offsets, then the "little guy" should be able to drive around in a SUV and not hurt the environment if he buys carbon offsets...... |

Ah, but going in which direction? I'm at the business end of a hell of a lot more public resentment since I got my Prius. When I had the pickup truck, no one gave a damn. So who's going to get the vandalism? _________________ "If a path to the better there be, it begins with a full look at the worst." — Thomas Hardy |
