I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

If only the Republican party reflected Arnold's politics instead of the neocons it might be in better shape today. I don't agree with everything Arnold does (like his soft attitude towards illegals) but other than that he's done better running this f-d up state than any governor in recent memory.

Governator as the neo Kissinger. Sort of. "Hasta la vista, liquid fuel shortages!" Laughing

Quote:
Stephanopoulos followed up about Obama: “If he were president and he called, you would at least take that call?”

Schwarzenegger replied: “I would take his call now, I will take his call when he's president — any time. Remember, no matter who is president, I don't see this as a political thing, I see this as we always have to help, no matter what the administration is.”

"I don't remember ever reading anything exploring the possible re-emergence in the American South of sharecropping and in the North of tenant farming post PO. I would expect it to be extremely pervasive.

Not sure what the term would be in Europe. Serfdom seems a bit archaic. Crofting might be appropriate, but isn't that a term used mostly in Scotland?"

Aren't most folks already essentially debt serfs?
