If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

Ok, so legislation to sue OPEC did not work, going after the speculator boogy men did nothing and now what are the incompetent democrats in congress asking for ? Lets tap the strategic petroleum reserves!!! 4 dollar a gallon gas is apparently an emergency and draining 500,000 barrels a day from the SPR will magically make the problem go away. What the hell is wrong with these people ? The IEA reports, Matt Simmons press... I saw a video on youtube of congressman Bartlett on the floor going into great detail about peak oil so I know these people don't have any excuses. Hell even T Boone Pickens the Texas oil man is promoting a serious plan to ween us off of oil. Yet congress continues to accomplish nothing, continue on their pathetic witch hunts and now they want to start draining our emergency oil reserves! This is pitiful, and I am more or less in line with the democratic party on many issues but when it comes to energy they have nothing to offer.

It's just politics.

They know bush won't do it so they're suggesting it to make him look like a big meanie to the sheeple.

Of course you are agreeing with Bush. Its easy to bitch and whine about him, but when the it looks like the Democrats might be taking the reins, one realizes these guys are absolutely insane. Spineless, no leadership skills, idiotic solutions. And Obama is moving so far right, so fast, he'll be asking Cheney to be his vice president candidate soon!

Couldn't agree more. As a registered Democrat, I have really tried to find some silver lining in their "solutions". But they all suck - really, really bad.

This is in line with McCain's "gas tax holiday" idea, and maybe even a little worse. Basically, one party is just plan evil (GOP) and the other is just a clueless bunch of blowhards who's entire platform is based on pandering.

They all suck.

No current party can rec a "solution" because there is no "solution" besides *maybe* powerdown and learn to accept life with less oil.

It's time for a new party. The old paradigms that lead to the democrat/republican split might be obsolete. Everything's changing.

I liked Matt Simmons solution of creating a floor on gas prices to make people realize that gas will NEVER EVER be cheap again.... EVER....

Agreed. I think this is the one and only thing that I find myself on board with in the last 8 years. I actually agree with Bush's wish to expand the SPR. (Like that will ever happen! Planning for a rainy day is not our specialty)

I'm also very disappointed in the dems response to this situation. Very knee jerk and worthless pandering which could easily make things worse.

Its good to see we are finally making progress. You have awakened to life and reality.

There are no answers, only results.

Lets start a movement to elect Simmons. He doesn't know the ropes, but he knows the facts.
