Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

Natural gas and wind is what Boone is selling here, folks.

I, suppose, broadly, most old Codgers produce a lot of both, so maybe they think they can make money on it while they're at it. Laughing

Seriously. Two thoughts.

1. Hitler Joe Lieberman is on board and says, ""I'm spoiling for some bold T. Boone Pickens-like action." Wow. Hitler Joe spoiling for some action. Makes my skin crawl.

2. Some guy name "Gal Luft" makes my non-moron list with the following . . .

Quote:
The committee also heard testimony from Gal Luft, executive director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security.
Luft took issue with Pickens' assertion that natural gas is a viable alternative to gasoline for transportation purposes, calling it a "spectacularly bad idea.

It is. Spectacularly bad. Perfect choice of words.

Burning precious natural gas to run cars is about a stupid a thing as you could do right now.

Has T-Boone joined Alaholics Anonymous yet?

Between him and Al they should be able to generate enough hot a . . .

ah nevermind.

Speaking of, I just read a very enlightening article on "green" McMansions this weekend, featuring Energy-Star™ homes and LEED™-silver ratings and singing the high praises of 3,500+ SF homes, whose utility bills measure only a couple of hundred dollars a month, versus a thousand or more for conventional construction. These homes are, of course, all located 30-45 miles outside of DFW, but that's no bother, since they are deemed "green" and "sustainable" - YAY!

I guess we really can have our Twinkie (to borrow from another thread) and eat it too! Smile

G-d I always hated twinkies.

Hated 'em.

I'd eat 20 packages of Devil Dogs, drink 10 liters of RC, and get lock jaw eating stale jujifruits, but by G-d, I had my standards, and when offered a Twinkie, I always felt a bit ill.

It's not the size, it's the occupancy. A green McMansion is fine as long as you have a dozen people living in it. Same deal with cars. Why are Hummers bad and busses are not? The number of passengers.

I agree, but McMansions typically have 2-4 people living in them, currently, I think. Smile

I've never seen a dozen strawberry pickers inhabiting a single exurban McMansion, but I suppose there's a first time for everything.

I'd imagine will be seeing plenty soon enough. Cool

Sure does. We won't stop till it breaks all the way. Crying or Very sad

The wind thing is OK, but they'll never make "plan". Not even close.

Sure. After years of fueling the insatiable growth/driving machine, Pickens comes clean as a whistle (and richer), as the man who saved day. Thanks, man!

Did Gal Luft say WHY he thought it was a bad idea? And since when did natural gas become precious?
MattS you need to poke around here at po some more. Look for this book High Noon for Natural Gas

Quote:
This is particular worrisome regarding Canadian natural gas. Canadian natural gas production rose by a measly 0.1% in 2005, even though exploration and development costs were up 25%. So 25% more money has to be spent in order to find 0.1% more natural gas. This is particularly worrisome for US gas supplies (as ours domestic supplies are now in decline). It also casts doubts on the future of Canadian Tar sands.
There's a whole lot more pain out there then you can imagine. Twisted Evil

Matt - it didn't say, but I'd say he said that because he knows it's precious.

It's precious because it has the following attributes:

1. Very clean.
2. Can be used with little or no processing as a fuel or a polymer feedstock.
3. Plastics production is highly dependent on NG.
4. American production is likely to go into steep decline any time now.
5. Food - the number 1 issue of the next 30 years, is made with fertilizers made from NG.
