How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

My company has access to Google's search queries and volume through their advertising program. I thought it would be an interesting exercise to see how many people were searching for topics frequently discussed here on PO.com. The following information is for the month of June. First is the search term(s), second is the approx search volume for June and third is the approx average search volume.

Absolutely facinating. Please consider posting this information every month if it won't go against Google licensing. It's impossible to say anything certain without several months of data, but my first "from the hip" read would be:
Numbers are a bit down: Gold may help, but it's expensive and risky!

I know it looks like the search volume is down but... I find it extremely disturbing that it's not down more than that. Many many business on the net have a 50%-70% drop in traffic/purchases during the months of June and July. In years past people are out doing summertime stuff and not in front of the computer.

A nice thing is I've gained some perspective after initially getting the doom-slam on this site. Not so doomerish anymore. Just fire up the BBQ, fill up the gas tank and let the good times roll!
