The post-peak oil, post-housing bust economy is already driving most crazy, and we won't even get to the food riot stage for maybe two more years.

It would be interesting to see... so many people only care to think about something as awful as peak oil when price is rising fast; but then it settles down, or drops a bit, and even though its much higher than before, and even though people are beginning to have to say "no, we can't afford the gasoline to..." they feel comforted and unconcerned.

Go back three years and say, "wow, we're going to have $125 / barrel oil in '08, and you'll all be relieved that its so cheap..." how many even here would have bought it?

Yet here we are.
