Russia's invasion of Georgia has stiffened some spines elsewhere in Europe
Poland and USA sign treaty agreement
It wasn't very smart of Russia to invade Georgia. Now everyone is alerted to what their little game really is. _________________ "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell |

Really??
Turkey sides with Russia:
| Quote: | Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed solidarity on Wednesday with Russia and its conflict in South Ossetia.
Upon his arrival in Moscow and meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Erdogan said that he is here to express solidarity with the Russian leadership during this crisis.
The Turkish Prime Minister added that his country is ready to exert all efforts to help end the crisis and conflict in South Ossetia.
For his part, Putin said that his country is keen to ensure Turkey's stability, describing their relations with Turkey as a guaranteed and friendly partner. |

The signing was going to be done anyway.

I dunno. Hosting the ABM just makes you the first to get hit by the ladder-downs or penetration strikes.
Its the biggest most inflamatory target you could paint on yourself.
Mind you, Poland probably half expects Nato to cut a deal with Russia for half the country. |

Poland is a major ally of the United States and an important member of the European Union.
I doubt Russia would be so foolish as to go after a country like that.
It's one thing to step on a tiny, belligerent country like Georgia. It is quite another to attempt to take on a country under the protection of several nuclear powers. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse." |

All the countries of the former Russian empire already have inflammatory targets painted on themselves......Mother Russia wants them all back....Russia just invaded Georgia, and Poland and all the other countries who escaped the Russian empire now know the Bear is on the hunt again. Who will be invaded next?
Ukraine has already been threatened by Putin with "dismemberment".... now they know it isn't just words.... _________________ "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell |

It's easy to think that way, but I don't buy it. I'm sure it doesn't like the idea of old soviet bloc contries joining Nato, but I just don't see what good it is to Russia to waste so much resources on reconstructing the iron curtain. _________________ As long as I am around, there are no worries we have reached "Peak Words"

It wasn't very smart of Georgia to send in special ops troops and wipe out three cities of women and children, this is what cause Russia to respond.
it is all a plan to foment fear. But the truth is coming out and it will backfire, it is imperative to elect anything byuut a neocon this time around.
In crises the most daring course is often safest.

The US bid to promote a fourth round of sanctions may get lost amid sharp dispute over Russian military action in Georgia. |

Ship Iran Nuclear tipped anti-ship missiles? Start supporting every dissident who wants a gun in Iraq? Setup shop in Cuba again?
These are all the obvious possibilities. What is bugging me is the big elephant we are missing. What is everyone playing for, what do the Kremlin and The Whitehouse expect China to do after the Olympics?
What is the wild card I am not seeing here? |
