We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

{Thanks to Vegas and Ron for this idea – post up your general location to connect via PM (or whatever other method you specify in your settings) with other Peak Oilers in your area. You can also join / start a Peak Oil Meetup group at www.meetup.com }

Everyone here is at least aware of PO. And I believe we need to continue discussing/planning at a forum like this. I'm very interested to speak with other people living in southern Nevada also. It may be time to network locally. In fact it's probably past time. Minus the few I've mentioned this too, I can't name anyone in Las Vegas that I know and is also following events. Even most of the people I tell dismiss it immediately. I don't think I can ever prepare properly all alone. Is there anybody out there?
So if you're in my area please post. If you're not, but would be willing to provide quarter to a hardworking/skilled refugee, please post. Maybe a forum categorey for local groups is in order.
Everything is saying sooner, not later. And even if it doesn't happen soon, I'd like the safety in numbers.

A forum category for local groups is a GREAT idea! I have the same concerns here in Mpls. Minnesota. I'm skilled, hardworking & preparred as 1 person can be...but my house has less than a quarter acre & a refugee is still a refugee!

Anybody with a few acres of land in my area, i'd like to begin NOW planting apple, pear & peach trees...grape vines & raspberry bushes...prepping a garden area... i just don't have enough land to do it.

Local Groups category would be a fine idea. To date I think I am the only one on from Central CA, (south of Fresno).

Post peak oil/peak energy scares Las Vegas scares me. (As does Phoenix). Way too many people with way too few natural resources. I am concerned about this place which is fairly dry, but its better than the deserts. Right now Las Vegas is pretty fun to visit but as I blogged this week its future isnt so fun.

North Central Arkansas here. Great idea. I know of a few other Arkansans on the forums - but most are in a different part of the state. Send me a PM if you're anywhere close by.
