Member Quotes
Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Best food value (calories and nutrition as opposed to cost) for the space used in our environment (cascadia northwest):

Must Haves even in a Small Setup:
Potatoes
Winter Squash
Tomatoes
Carrots
Parsnips
Onions & Garlic
Pole Beans (green beans)

If you have enough space for an adequate sized patch:
Dried Beans (pinto, kidney, navy)
Flint/Dent Corn for cornmeal

Lots of other good things go in the garden - but the above list is the basis for the real calorie production and basic meal prep. We grow lots of other items that then augment the above staples with taste and nutritional additions - such as:

Lettuce
Spinach
Snap Peas
Shelling Peas
Peppers
Summer Squash
Kale
Cabbage
Brocolli
Brussel Sprouts
Kohlrabi
Collards
Turnips (also a good staple but our family does not like them enough for that)
Celery
Herbs

We also grow the following fruits:

Strawberries
Cranberries
Blackberries
Raspberries
Rhubarb (technically not a fruit but we treat it as one)
Blueberries
Huckleberries

And we forage the native berries from our area to supplement our own production. Our neighbor has a giant apple tree and shares the harvest with us each year for our help in picking.
