I realize that this is a book review section. I decided to post a brief review of this video anyway as it may be a more effective tool for spreading the word.
" The End of Suburbia " is a worthwhile effort. As I suggested, I do believe that it will serve the significant purpose of a oil depletion primer for the uninformed masses. The video presents an effective summary of the events that led to the creation of the car culture in North America ( which is what makes the suburbs viable - as long as there is a source of abundant, cheap oil ). As the title suggests, this model for the " American Dream " is about to change.
Most of the " Peak Oil " stars are interviewed: Deffeyes, Campbell, Heinberg, Darley, Ruppert among others. Their commentary is effective and to the point. The only failing in this video is that it does not follow the consequences of depletion quite far enough. I do not mind the mostly optimistic tone, however, as this approach will keep uninformed people from simply tuning out. For the purpose of introducing your friends, family, neighbors to the " Peak Oil " concept, the video rates very well. Highly recommended for this purpose !
