For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

Check out the review of The Pentagon's New Map. This book proposes that the problem with the world is the gap that exists between the "core" developed countries and the "gap."

He believes that the US military must reoriented to, essentially, establish economic growth in the gap-countries. He thinks developing alternative energy sources is bad because we will then abandon the middle east.

I guess the author hasn't been reading about peak oil.

Nope. Nothing about peak oil.

This is basically nothing but the same tired old argument for American imperialism.

Instead of putting what's left of our national wealth into the pockets of generals and weapons manufacturers, maybe we should learn to get along with the world and then use the $800 billion a year spent on imperialism to create renewable energy for the dark days ahead.

It's amazing to me that people like this are in positions of power.
