I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

I didn't buy anything for the PO future. Maybe I should consider buying some hand tools. Does anyone know really good brands, not the Chinese crab which brakes with the first use.
What are good secondhand places?

Since long (without being aware of PO) I thought it would be good having some hand drive machine to make mulch, but I never have seen such a thing.

Does anyone retrofit house, shed and garden for PO?

Did you look in the Planning for the Future forum? Lots of helpful information there.
I find sturdy tools for bargain prices at estate and garage sales-also thrift stores.

Check out ebay - Australian collectibles - I have found many a treasure on there in terms of household manual appliances.

I have been working on this lately. I am working on the premise that lots of stuff we now take for granted will soon not be available. It is going to cost to much to import it. Many things come under this category.

Find all this stuff in the planning for the future section.

Books. Especially self sufficiency books, many of them are published over seas.

Tools get good ones and avoid the cheap shitty ones. Once you have them you are set. Start with a small window of tools to perform a specific set of tasks, and widen out from there. For example:

Wood work:
Hand chisels
hand saw
manual drill (Stanely still make them)
hand auger with wood working bits
hammers
nails & screws

There are all sorts of categories you could go into. Remember things are so cheap and easy to come by now. Think on what you really need. One of the ones I came up with is some sanitation pads for the ladies in my life. They certainly don't make em here so stock up.

I am building a medium term response and acting on it. When I am done I will post in in planning for the future.
