| Thanks Ludi. There are some pretty interesting papers in that link. Pure gold for the dryland farmer/gardener. |

| Did you know that most all grasses can be "juiced" like wheat and barley grass. That includes quack (couch) grass, crabgrass, bluegrass, common reed (all parts edible), canarygrass, brome, fescue, redtop, orchardgrass, timothy, ryegrass, bluestem, blue grama, canada wildrye, gamagrass, green needlygrass, Indiangrass, cordstem, swithcgrass etc, etc...? |

I didn't know that, oowolf. Are they all safe to consume? I understand that after drought some grasses can concentrate prussic acid (cyanide). Sudangrass and Johnsongrass have this tendency. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow." - jboogy |

There are over 10.000 species of grass. I don't think anyone knows about them all. The grasses I listed have been tried--many by myself--and found not to be toxic. Be sure to harvest before the plant enters the reproductive stage, as is done with wheat and barley.
If you're not juicing grass, you're missing out on a major (and easily obtained) source of nutrition. |

I know the sedges are edible, especially the yellow nutsedge, which has edible tubers.
From what I'm reading here, any of the grain plants can be juiced (wheat, barley, rye, etc.) but that they should be very tender and green, long before the heads appear.

A couple of quotes I came away with from the Air Force Survival School.
1. "All true grasses are edible."
2. "All aggregate berries are edible."
