Palm trees

I want to remove Queen Palms out of our garden. Because nothing underneath really grows. Does anyone have experience with other palms? Coconut palms for example or jelly palms? Date palms won't set fruit here I think they need a dry climate.

I've got 9 Washington palms in the yard. The trunk will go straight down a few feet and end up with a ball about 50% wider than the trunk. This makes digging them up a chore. If you cut the tree down and leave the stump, younger trees can regrow. They need to be dug up.

There are people who will use palm tree trunks for carving tiki statues. There are others who will dig the things up and haul them away for landscaping. Selling the tree may be an option, save you some hassle, make a few bucks on the side.

These palms here are classified as environmental weed.
Maybe palm trees are generally not very good in a producing garden, however in an oasis you'll always find palm trees (maybe they have good soil)

The palm trees at an oasis were almost always planted by someone and are usually Date palms, sometimes oil or coconut depending on the part of the world in question. You might look into some of the South American Palms. I think acai berries are a palm fruit but don't remember for sure.

You'll need to do additional research on each kind for hardiness, etc, but here is a listing of Edible Palms

there are much more edible palms than I thought, and this is and extremely good thing for arid areas.

Before hacking a palm down, you might be able to find a local palm enthusiast to remove it for you.

You'd be surprised how many people would love to take a mature palm off of your hands!
