How are things going?
Thanks for asking. I haven't had much time to post lately. This is the first weekend my family is spending together in our new house since I was hired for my job. We've had quarter sized hail twice already! Gotta love Oklahoma in spring. No damage, though.
I've got a batch of chicks arriving around the 12th of May, and will be retrieving my goats within the month as well. I was able to maintain most of the seedlings I started earlier in TX, and while they are struggling since they were in the flats too long they are now in the ground and I expect to have at least a modest harvest later this summer. I brought a couple of my fig trees in big pots, and will probably just plan to keep them in pots permanently at this point.
I had a bit of a panic the other morning, feeling insecure about our preps situation since we had to do all this in a hurry and I hadn't had time to inventory everything, etc. But when I thought over all our needs (water, food, shelter, security) I realized we could meet them here in a short term (couple of weeks or more) crisis, by which I mean we could make do if we felt we had to bug in for that long. And as long as we keep one of the gas tanks full we can make our way to our other place if needed.
Other than that, we are doing okay. Lots more opportunity here for us in almost every way. The past month has been insanely hectic, but now the worst of the move is over and I'm hoping to meet up with a couple of local peakers this month. My job is going well and it's good to be around more friends again, and in a university environment where there are a lot of interesting things going on. Part of me feels icky about participating more in the "matrix" again. It's strange interacting with so many people who see this state of affairs as a permanent situation, and expect technology and politics can save us from the consequences of exceeding limits. I have to bite my tongue a lot. But I need to keep the social interaction going or I get depressed and can't function, so this is better than our former setup. _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young

Shanny, thanks for the update. I too was wondering how things were going for you. As you said, it feels weird interacting with mainstream folks who think the current paradigm is permanent. Back in the '60s, while stationed at Shepard AFB, I went to the Wichita Mountains as an escape. Have you been there? Here's a link:

I'm glad things are going well, Shanny. I've always enjoyed moving, guess I'm strange that way. It is kind of exciting getting to know new surroundings. _________________ Make a plan and work it:
