I end up starting what I am sure are repeat threads ... and so do other people ... because it takes WAY too long to wade through everything to find the thread I might be looking for.

Example: I am sure there are multiple threads about how much food to store up per person, links to places to buy the food, etc.

But I don't have 10-20 hours to go through everything here looking for those threads and/or that info, that might be on a different thread that evolved in that direction.

Need better search tool!

Thanks

Lumpy

Go to Google, choose advanced search tools. Then specify the peakoil.com domain. Do your search, using the richness of Google search terms.

Cool

Yes the searching on this forum can be a little tricky but you just have to get the words right and experiment with the advanced search form a little.

Sometimes Lumpy, the questions just aren't answered. They may have been asked a dozen times but the answer may not be there that fits your case. Something like food quantities is VERY individual to the family therefore quantities have to be multiplied by some 'factor'. I'll give a better answer over in that thread.

Doing a search before starting a new thread is fine effort. After 4+ years, the forums have seen copious volumes of material posted, starting to get difficult to find a particular topic in the search engine.

I don't see anything wrong with starting a new thread after having made a serious attempt at looking around for an existing thread. If the old thread is so buried that finding it is difficult, a new thread, even on the same topic, can be useful, especially with all the new members over the past year. If the old thread is found, link to it and send a message to the administrators and moderators with a merge request.

Over time, my workbench gets cluttered. Sometimes it is good to clean it up. Sometimes I build another workbench. Sometimes I just buy another house and start over.

Nice work there, Aaron.
I see its included on the left side menu bar.

If I met a woman as responsive as you, I'd be married by now.

Using Aaron's awesome Google search page I found this PO article on Food Storage

Wowie Zowie, Batman! I put something in a suggestion box, and not only did I get great answers, a new tool appeared on the left tool bar.

I don't think I've ever had such a fast response from a suggestion box of any kind in my whole life!

Thanks again, all.

Lumpy

PS - That link DomusAlbion provided via the PO Google search is really worth going to and printing out. My copy is in a 3-ring binder now. Thanks DA.
