I am trying to set up a monthly movie viewing in my community starting in November. The topic is not specifically Peak Oil but the expected crowd will likely be left leaning people with an ethical bent. Probably older professionals.
The format will likely be to show the movie followed by a casual discussion period with a bit o wine and cheese.
So I am looking for suggestions that I can play. I have the Bartlet video from You Tube, but that is not very good quality. I would at least like to start with some more professional looking stuff.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks - Newfie. _________________ When going through hell, keep going! Churchill

I would suggest "Crude Impact" as a good intro video (may also be able to find it online).

When your topic switches to Iraq, "No End in Sight" is a very powerful, award winning documentary that I highly recommend.

I think this is great idea. Please let us know how the first viewing goes. Good luck! |

What a Way to Go is great, and it encompasses peak oil as well as other big issues:
| Quote: | A middle class white guy comes to grips with Peak Oil, Climate
Change, Mass Extinction, Population Overshoot and the demise of the
American Lifestyle. |
It might be a bit much if you think they are totally unaware of any of these problems, but if they are at least partially aware that things aren't okay it's worth a look.

Rather than Crude Impact I would suggest Crude Awakening.
I like to remember Crude Impact was a sleeping pill. (Not totally sure as I think I fell a sleep in the middle.)
After the PO movie show something like "who killed the electric car". Especially if you get visitors from the first session to the second, you should get more people thinking about alternatives etc. To be valuable I think this requires some prep from you to maybe make a presentation on why rolling out alternative solution isn't so straight forward (otherwise they may think all is hunky dory, we just need to switch to electrics and voila problem solved.)
Off-the-oil-topic I think you should take this opportunity to show some film/clips that explain the monetary system.
Like money masters or America freedom to fascism etc.
Maybe solmething geopolitical or military?
Like Africa the next oil target or

I would recommend "The Corporation"
From IMDB: "Documentary that looks at the concept of the corporation throughout recent history up to its present-day dominance." |

| The Cuba one--is it called The Power of Community?--is a combination of really dire and incredibly hopeful. A great film for groups to talk about. |

Oh--and the End of Suburbia is a fantastic introduction as well. Escape from Suburbia, the follow-up, is interesting but was not nearly as moving for me.
A movie to show to people you want to mobilize to work together on these issues is What a Way to Go. It is passionate, heartbreaking. Don't show it lightly, but when people are ready, there is nothing better. |

Ted.com has too many to list. Very expertly presented by some of the finest thinkers of our day. It is one of my favorite sites.
I just watched this one

Funny with some foul language but worth watching. |

My many, many thanks to all who have replied.
It will take some time to review these suggestions although I did watch two last night.
Again, my thanks,
