For the record, all the religious connections in my post only went towards convincing the 1850's mind. I don't believe that anything I think or see has any reality to it, much less nebulous and ethereal concepts like "god" or "religion."

Same story with me! I was partially raised in the Christian Church and never have been able to accept such mentally limiting constraints as suscribed by organized religion. I figured JG would try to turn this into a repent=salvation thread.
Acceptance of Death should be fundamental with or without PO, but it certainlly fits under these circumstances, and definately makes a great call sign here.

Well Im really disappointed in this thread.

I was really getting excited about this 'trick' but obviously it was a load of old tosh because the author has gone awol.

The idea that someone could have said something to stop humanity exploiting oil is just wishful thinking, money would have prevailed.

The way I see it, PO or no, you end up dead in the end, and we have no clue what happens after that. We already know this, but being young in a wealthy industrial society doesn't exactly equip you with the tools to grapple with such a fact, so we tend to forget about it. Knowing about PO sort of forces us to deal with the reality that we won't be here forever; it takes away the comfort of not having to think about it. But in the end it makes little difference. While it might change our outlook on or plans for life, those are very temporary changes. In the long run something like PO makes very little difference, despite how we percieve it. You can out run peak oil, but you can't live forever.

Hmm, interesting. Chinese believe in reincarnation. My clan have a tradition. Before you kill any animals for meat. You should chanting "Be a chicken, duck, cow or pig, reborned and rekilled again". According to the tradition if the animal run away, it's life is spared as due to CPU errors in heaven or hell, some poor human soul are accidently dumped into "animal body" (direct translation). So the run away animal is really a human trapped in animal body.

However, if the silly animal remained there , time to kill as only low grade animal soul are in that animal. However, my grandmother changed the tradition. Last time I heard she chant "Don't blame us for the killing. We only want to eat. My family need good meat to eat. Hope you reincarnate into better body" So any animals can be killed for food.

That's why Buddhists are vegan. They don't have to test all those animals for animal soul or human soul. Save all the troubles. I heard some animals cried when the slaughter time is near. Some human souls must be accidently dumped inside. Laughing

The first page admits oil is a product eons old! I've never seen a good biblical time line explaining this (or dinosaurs)! And then, out of hundreds of pages, he uses two (2) parables to prove his redemption message. haha Just a PO aware religious kook! It didn't jive before, but now science can explain the rapture! haha
And acceptdeath- check out the pharmacist's link- we can live forever! haha I wouldn't want to.

Read my posts in the "Quitting Peak Oil" thread below. Then go to the guys "peakanswers.org" website. Tell me the same guy wrote both. I mean it's possible but seems not very likely. Ultimately, I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. Razz

Glad to hear the guy was legit with his offer. Accept Death and Joe Greene are definantely not in kahhoots. You'd have to be crazy to think that.

I'm confused. The competition was held and the prize awarded, but what was the winning entry?

A cynic might say it was guerilla marketing for a web site, which seems to be short on answers despite its name.

Apparently it was a competition where $200 would be awarded to the person that Joe Greene thought provided the best answer to the question 'if you could go back in time when oil was first discovered, what would you tell people?'

Then came along the confusing bit, according to Joe there was a 'right answer' to his question which involved a 'trick'. The trick he tried to explain to everyone through confusing posts so nobody understood what the hell he was going on about.

Then the shock ending happened when accept death was awarded the $200 just for having the name accept death.

So we never got to find out what the 'right answer' was or the 'trick' because Joe just went AWOL.

It seems to me that he is trying to enlighten everyone that everything is God's property and we are meant to be taking care of it while it is on loan to us (and most of us aren't, so we're bringing hell on ourselves). I believe that is his goal. He's an interesting fellow, though some of his "lessons" are pretty cryptic.
