We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

I see so many posts about people talking about stocking up on food stores and getting out of debt. These of course are important. But I think it is also extremely important to start training and learning how to survive in the wilderness on minimal supplies. Live off the land. One of the best chances of survival in a post peak crash will be the wilderness... if that person knows the skills to survive. A good survival book and regular in-the-field training is a must. It takes much skill and diligence to live off the land. More than most people realize. But I think people (who have the proper skills) escaping to the wilderness to avoid starvation and riots will fare much better than the people who remain in cities and towns. It is very possible to survive off of the land, without a gun for hunting. Just takes a lot of practice and diligence. Just reading about it isn't enough. First-hand experience is the only way. Now is the time to start learning! Smile

Sounds like fun. Where are we going and when do we leave?

There is a book at my public library about what plants you can and cannot eat in survival situations. You would be surprised at some of the things you can eat if you are desparate enough.

Its a dirty, messy affair. I enjoy it, but its not everyone cup of tea. Most animal gathering is done through traps and snares. I'll tell you first hand trapping isnt easy. And then, you end up killing the animal "face to face" as it were, which is tough for some people. Plus you have to skin it and clean it.
Plants are much easier. Find a good book about camping or some such.

Practice is EASY. GO CAMPING!! Find the closest park (Not city park!) and go camping for a weekend. The training will be invaulable, as you'll quickly learn what you need and what you dont need. And its much better to learn over the weekend and know you can go back home rather then learn "on the fly" when SHTF and you HAVE to survive that way.

supposedly some fakirs in India manage to live without food or water alltogether. But here we enter the esoteric realm. Here a link to Poland in this regard: http://www.niejedzenie.pl/english/

I read about one of these guys a few months back. Indian doctors were monitoring him, and they asserted that for the 40 days he had been in their care, he had neither eaten nor drunk anything! I find it absolutely amazing, yet credible. I've heard that some fakirs (not necessarily "breatharians') live to a great age, and actually CHOOSE when they want to die!

However, I bet that these people are not able to engage in any kind of strenuous work (such as might be needed Post-Peak). I'm sure they would be very wise, and might be like a counsellor for a group of people, but I think they would be very weak physically.

Regards,

L.
