Don’t worry, just a little bump - $70 is just around the corner. Short traders just keep making those margin calls, mortgage the house if you have to. Fortunes await you! PO is for pansies and doomers. At $70 short some more ..... it is going back to $22 .... the world is awash with oil ........ reality has nothing to do with it, its all in those charts!!!!!!!!!!

No. Most of the people here arent quite on the same wavelength as myself. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the

I feel better hanging out around here - maybe because it helps me feel like less of a crazy loon....or maybe I feel like a crazy loon who has friends....maybe I am a crazy loon!

Ditto…except I am not on the same wavelength as Specop. I think I mostly fall in line with Aaron.
I remain extremely pessimistic regarding the future prosperity of the human race.
There are too many sheeple (soft landers) here on this site for me. I wish we could have a "doomer" section to talk about the darker side of things to come. Every time a doomer thread starts, it is made fun of by our resident sheeple. They are all distractions, just like Specops' threads (most of them). Very few members are willing to discuss how horrible life is about to become (horrible= dieoffs, lower standard of living, death, wars, disease, etc.) I for one have been laying low on this forum & (more) quietly making preparations.

I concur. I propose a Hardcore Doomer and Fuzzy Bunny forum to separate the wheat from the chaff. Aaron?

Sometimes I feel like a nut
Sometimes I don't
peakoil.com has nuts
mounds don't ... because ( j/k I always feel like a nut )
No, given what I have studied in history, if everything goes does down bad, there will be huge dieoffs, territory wars, wide spread famine.
I just don't think, this will be our immediate threat. I think we are headed for an immediate world wide recession possibly great depression but the sheeple will hold on as long as they have realty tv. Personally I feel the neocons will do whatever they can to keep the world together until they get out of office in 2008 and then they will hand it off to the democrats that way they can claim everything was fine while they were in.

That, good sir, is evident.
Myself, I do feel a bit more at peace of mind. With this forum, I am at least exercising my mind, and by posting on here, others may benefit from my thoughts.
As you can tell, I do like to help people.
Currently, my plan is to get out of home, start renting, and get some kind of backpack kit going (I can't drive, so I'll be getting out via the railways - fitting, no?).

It are precisely these kinds of comments that keeps me coming back to this forum. Personally, I think that many people posting here spend WAY to much time on the Internet, browsing controversial websites that discuss global issues and claim to be informative (but are not), and then come to peakoil.com to share their newly acquired 'knowledge', with the intention to inform their fellow peakoiler, so he\she can take the adequate measures necessary to plan for the future.
It amazes me that people on peakoil.com actually believe they belong to a community that has some kind of foreseeing `knowledge`, that is not available to the masses (or as some members label them, very disrespectfull, the `sheeple` ), which gives us a huge advantage for future developments...

It's just as well that we don't have such a section; the mass of people refuse to acknowledge that a problem exists. Even on this site, a great many appear to believe that post-Peak adaptation will consist of riding a bicycle or motoring along in a hybrid car.
When one actually gets into solid doomer scenarios, one faces the situation alluded to in a recent poll - i.e., two enter, only one leaves. Thus will it be - in my opinion - around the world. Except it will actually be more like 6 enter, 1 leaves.
From this, much follows. Mere cooperation will not suffice; cooperation may move the deck chairs around as the great ship begins to shudder and slip beneath dark waves, but it will not keep the passengers and crew alive. We have 6.5 billion passengers. We have, at most, lifeboat capacity for 1 billion of them. So one is faced with deciding who will have one of those precious seats, and who will not. People are simply not prepared to make that decision; though, in the fullness of time, they will be forced to make it.
My preparations continue apace. As for discussing the details; that seems superfluous. Persuading the ignorant masses is pointless. If people don't get it yet, I accept their self-nomination to the ranks of non-survivors. _________________ Dieoff. Fun to watch. Better with hot buttered popcorn!

I think you hit the nail there. Stress is caused by being worried about a problem but not being able to do anything about it. Even if you can't change the underlying problem significantly, at least sharing the knowledge with others, and preparing mentally as well as practically is a great benefit. So regardless of what the truth is these forums allow like minded people to connect, and I think that helps.
On the subject of what the "truth" really is: that is a big topic but is a side issue to how people feel. I think I would disagree on one point, it is possible to have special knowledge, in fact quite easy given the general condition of public ignorance (check out snopes.com to see how many things people believe that are not true, as well as regular surveys where people think the Sun orbits the Earth).
While there may not be much we can do about global matters, simple things like getting out of debt could make a huge difference to the individual. So I think there is a lot of positive stuff going on, but I think the difficulty for most people is spending an hour or so preparing for the worst, then switching off and enjoying life without worrying about what might not happen. _________________ It's all downhill from here
