Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Seems on another forum so guys worked out a group buy for Mountain House freeze dried foods. I plan on buying a few cases, the price is right. Shelf life in proper storage is on par with MRE's (5+ years, probably double if stored right). Figured I'd post it here as well.
While you cant buy enough to live forever, its always nice to have a few days or a weeks worth of quick, easy and lightweight portable food. If nothing else it makes a good just in case in the event of a bad winter storm or hurricane. Although, I dont think we get Hurricanes in America..... Razz

Anyways, go here if your interested.

I purchase 5-10 packages of freeze dried food a month @ $4.00 - $8.00 each. I purchase them at Walmart and a nearby camping store. I also purchase MRE's on eBay. If your going to do so on eBay, be sure you find out the expiration date from the seller!

If you plunk away at this slowly, you'll be suprised how quickly it adds up. My goal is a one year supply of food for my daughter and I. Between the freeze dried food and the food that I've vacuum sealed for long term storage, I think I'm pretty close.

Triple,
If your paying 4-8 bucks per pack, DEFINATELY get in on this group buy. The only downsideis I dont know what shipping is, but the prices we're getting will make it more then worthwhile if your paying that much per pack. We are limited in that we can only buy by the case on this one, but again, the prices are very good. If you can double that 8 bucks per pack you pay now you can be in on a case.

In my first post theres a link to a battlerifles thread. Go to that thread and read all of it, the guys contact info is on page 3 of the thread. Email him just saying you'd like in on the group buy and he will email you a price list. Once you have that you can decide what you want and how much. Looks like we'll be doing the orders sometime this week, as of now he cant make and promises on shipping costs as it will depend on how much the total order is. So, just keep an eye on the battlerifles thread and whatnot.
But anyways, to start off go to the thread and shoot the guy an email requesting the price list. Glad to have you on board, I'm planning on picking up 5 to 10 cases for myself.

Thanks S!

I sent him an email stating I'd like in on the purchase. I already have a paypal account w/ funds, so I'm good to go. Having a nice big stash of non-perishable food is helping me sleep better at night. Whether it be peak oil, earthquakes, fire storms, terrorism, oil disruption, or whatever, I believe it wise if 'ye are a city dweller like me, to have some serious rations saved up.

I agree on the rations! I plan on having approx 5 to 10 cases (or #10 cans preferably) of freeze dried to help compensate for the rice/beans/grains stash. After all, I like the 3 long term stores but rice and beans day in and day out for 6 months to a year until a I had an established garden would...well, just suck. So, getting a few cases of freeze dried food will definately help break the monotony of grains/legumes. Besides, I bet if its a hard crash I could trade freeze dried ice cream for quite a bit.... :D

Yeah, I understand the buy is over. I have the wholesale catalog for the #10 cans and Pouch's as well, and plan to put in a $10,000 or so order for myself, so perhapse I may setup another group buy to go in with my order, but it wont be for another month or so..
