Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I could be in Eureka 11/12 as suggested.

I'm also trying to fit in a visit to the National Small Farm Trade Show and conference 11/3-5 in Columbia Missouri.

Busy month. Trip to the Gulf Coast for family and work, and a trip to Iowa to clean out a big barn full of Tools and Hardware. Anyone need a Maverick Gas skidloader or a small/medium sized manure spreader? How about a 197? Ford Maverick with 11,000 original miles?

Anyone notice how preparing for peak oil and the end of consumerist culture requires a LOT of oil and consumerism? LOL

Sounds like a wonderful plan, Pops. I hope you get a good attendance. I, unfortunately, won't be able to attend. Besides the fact that Eureka is 4 hours from me - and that would make for a very long day (plus I'm milking twice a day)....

Last night I was voted on as a governing board member of the local volunteer fire department (guess they were impressed with my willingness to pull together Carla Emery's visit...) and I'm now the Development Officer. November 12 is the date on which they have re-scheduled the chili supper. It's a fund raiser, since we're trying to raise money ($6000) to buy a "jaws of life" for the EMS/First Responders. I'll also be looking into writing some grants - as much as I hate grantwriting....

I do hope you'll all post and let us know how the visit goes. Sounds like it will be fun Smile

I kind of thought we were just a little too far apart Kathy.

We went to OK City last Saturday for the Granddaughter’s birthday. Get up, do chores, drive 4 hours, visit, drive 4 hours home, do chores – then get a call to help herd some heifers out of the road. Whew!

Anyway, maybe some of you can get together down there somewhere before it gets too cold?

Pops,
We will try to be there...job permitting of course. I'm still trying to take that entire week off from work. So I hope to be hanging out somewhere in the Ozarks during the week before your get together and will plan to be in Eureka Springs accordingly. Looking forward to it.

No imposition at all, Medic!

In fact anyone with knowledge of Eureka that could make a suggestion for a place to meet please speak up – we’ve never been there.

Well - I'm glad I checked this thread again! Eureka Springs sounds good to me, maybe I can invite some locals that have an interest in peak oil.

As for a meeting place, I'll try to reserve the community room at the libarary or maybe the Unitarian church. If we have less than a dozen folk coming and if the weather's nice maybe y'all could come over to our house for a lunch or dinner cookout - potluck kind of thing.

What do y'all think.

Thanks Bob.

We’ll be there around dinner (10a-2p) and if you can find us a place to mill around that would be great.

I was a little worried about the weather…

I just love organization – as long as someone else is doing the organizing!

Don't mind doing the organizing at all, Pops - Afterall, I live here and won't need to drive as far as the rest of y'all.

If you need a recommendation for a place to stay let me know. We have off season rates here in Eureka in November. Eureka has several chain motels as well as cabins, B&B's and of course our two historic hotels, the Cresent and the Basin Park. Rates run anywhere from $ 39.00 to $ 200.00 per night for two.

I'll send a press release to our weekly paper to see if we can't round up a few more folks.

OK, I'm itching to go, but I'm in the middle of reroofing my house. I'm hopeing to have it finished by then, but who knows how much other stuff I'll have piled up by then. I'm thinking about driving up for Saturday, I'll run this by my mom and see if she wants to go with me.
