America Can Do Better
Arianna Huffington | Quote: | | Have Democratic leaders completely forgotten that we are at war? A war that’s going very badly? A war Plamegate has brought to the forefront of national consciousness? A war the majority of Americans now feel was a mistake? |
America could do somewhat worse. I can't think how they could, though. |

It would be worse if Bush would claim that everything was going fine and according to plan.
'We are definitely winning the war on terror, democracy is spreading in Iraq'
Bush: “The best way to honor the sacrifice of our fallen troops is to complete the mission.” There's just one problem...there are no mission objectives. This is a war that can't be won... _________________ "In the U.S., fears are so exaggerated and out of control that anxiety is the number-one mental health problem in the country.", Barry Glassner |

I heard there was a war once where Americans were restricted to buying 4 gallons of gasoline a week and encouraged to grow vegetable gardens in place of their lawns. And they did it mostly without complaint. My dad left his boyhood farm home with no electicity or plumbing to go fight in that war.
Maybe if we passed a law that if we go to war, everyone is automatically limited to 4 gallons a week, we'd only fight the ones we really had to. |

Adriana says we are at war. Please leave me out of the "we". I did not decide to go kill Arabs and get 2000 of the "we" killed and another 17000 wounded so that my friends could make mucho dinero.
I think Bush, Chaney et. al. should be tried, found guilty, and executed for treason. |

Same here, I'd pay to see that! Although I might skip the trial _________________ Vision without action is a dream, action without vision is a nightmare. |

Excellent post and your example sums up the problem of 'sort of going to war'.
Americans are at war and they just went through the biggest natural disaster in their history...and CNN is focused night after night on a missing teen in Aruba and the big buzz in the office is the new Ipod. |

Brilliant!
I am going to use this example in debates.

And we have a military draft, starting with the offspring of those with the highest net incomes. |
