How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

I dont have an edit button.....
Apparently both me and my browser are on crack. I have an Edit button for THIS post, but not ones in say, Round Table Discussion.
Also, the Peak Chat does not work in Firefox, but it does work in IE.
In most of forums you can't edit because it could be used to make nonsense of following posts by disreputable posters. Going back and changing history, so to speak.
I'm sure you don't fall into that camp, however we have no way at present of granting that privilege to some rather than all.
No idea about your other problem though. _________________ Burning the midnight oil, whilst I still can.
Ok, the edit thing makes sense I guess. I just hate it because I always post the reply, THEN proof read and go back and edit spelling and other mistakes. I just cant rpoof read while still in a Post Reply window, I dunno. I'm funny like that I guess.....

Cut from the post, take it your MS Word/Word Perfect, compose, spell check, cut and paste. Viola! Perfection! _________________ A Saudi saying, "My father rode a camel. I drive a car. My son flies a jet-plane. His son will ride a camel."

OilBurner, if you add a time in on the change of edit, people will know a post was edited. Therefore they'll know if someone is attempting to change history.
Bah! Implement that feature already! In fact it's just a config setting.
For PHP boards, there should be a line that goes something like "Last edited by nnn on dd-mm-yyyy, edited xx times in total". _________________ Live quotes - crude oil, gold and currencies

Any offers of assistance in implementing PHP functions is most appreciated.

so implement the feature and drop the act and the labyrinth group bullcrap.
Impatient demands are not...
This site is ALL volunteer including how it gets paid for.
A small group of like-minded volunteers struggle to make this place a serious resource for learning about depletion issues.
Until we can implement features like "ignore" we suggest you don't read offending topics. I don't care for the troll postings myself, and rarely read them.
We will never allow editing or deleting of posts however... So make sure when you post that it's what you want to contribute.
We do provide spell checking and a preview function. If you don't use them... well...
There is an open call for assistance with this site in the forums. To date NOT ONE PERSON has volunteered, or even responded. Sometimes I wonder how we will ever work together to solve our energy challenges...
I'm no different than any of you. I'm a single parent raising my son as best I can. I'm a struggling worker-bee barely getting by. A victim of downsizing in corporate America, our lack of health insurance means if something serious happens... we are screwed. I find the trolls who deface this forum offensive; I find the egocentric attitudes of some who visit here offensive as well. If I glance around, it's not difficult to be disappointed by some of my fellow humans. But there are also many here who make me hopeful, and proud...
As a volunteer admin here, having donated many hundreds of hours, along with several others, I choose to stay the course, do my best, and attempt to support those members which I find valuable in participation, and ignore the selfish and adolescent behavior "others".
I do this because I believe it's the right thing to do... and still hope others will feel the same.
I remind everyone here... You are getting exactly what you have paid for.
Sorry for the "novella length" response... The best I can muster at the moment.
I wish I could communicate the importance of what we all do in this time...
From the perspective of the future, we are all time travelers into a past which will dictate how things go.

and I don't know any php, maybe you're confusing me with the anon bloke from the Bill Hicks forums? or whoever runs those or was running them, they use php - try posting at the Sacred Cow board, he might help because he's a right-winger and the way I found this place was via a post by someone else on another forum again that said ' bush - cheney - jesus ', so naturally i came over here to see exactly how Labyrinth Group it really was
The request for assistance was not directed at you Dragon _________________ "When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen F Roberts.
I understand the edit button thing. Could there at least be a button to delete duplicate posts. I'm bad about posting something then hitting the back button on my browser only to see it posting again. I'm trying to train myself out of it, but still.

I try and catch those as often as I can. Send me a pm if I don't.
