You suddenly get the meaning of the phrase "living on borrowed time" in a whole new light.

You wonder how much energy the alcohol that was consumed at an underage party could have yielded.

You know when your country peaked (or will peak).

You've actually entertained the idea of homesteading and eating rabbits.

When you fight with that AH selling you a new gas heater because the damned thing can't be switched on WITHOUT electricity!! So what's the use to get a gas heater if I still need damned electricity to stay warm?

(And the man looks at you like you were nuts)

Go for a walk, you are always checking (with the locals) if the plants/berries/nuts you see around you are edible - and if so, how are they prepared. I'm not from Poland, so I am always asking! It is amazing to me how much edible stuff is available even in Warsaw.

... you have more than one set of gardening tools.

... you've ever given a friend a lump of coal for Xmas and been shocked that they weren't delighted.

...when you have to scroll through endless boring posts dealing with the Left vs. Right and NeoCon vs. Liberal issues before you find something interesting to read here at PO.com.

If people could understand that it is all a question of individualism vs. collectivism there would be no PO.com because there would be no goddamn PO at all. Then we could all do something productive instead of sitting here all day long whining.

OK, I'll type slowly this time so that even you can follow.

Collectivism: (North Korea, Microsoft, Britney Spears). Keyword: You're owned.

Individualism: Freedom.

Everything that you see on this Earth that sucks is a result of collectivism. You vote or buy people into power because you have no other choice or you don't give a fuck anyway. People that think that they know what's best for you. The end result is always corruption. It doesn't really matter if it's a government, a corporation or a fat bitch. In any case, someone will take your money because you let them do it, and since they have your money they'll tell you what to do next.

This Left vs. Right crap is just like when you throw a dog a bone. It's like when you choose your favourite football team as a kid. Sometimes the team will win, sometimes it will lose. The problem is that when it comes to politics, there are no losing or winning teams. There are only winning teams. The politicians themselves. It's of course good for the politicians when the people spend their energy arguing which team is the best instead of taking a deeper look at the poblems we are facing. The politicians are there to do it for you so just keep on paying your taxes and be happy.

There are a few people like me that think that this is not right. People that think that "we" have given up too much freedom and given it to the politicians and corporations. People that think that no one can decide what's best for us but ourselves. If you think this is oddball stuff it's OK with me.

... when you travel 22,000 km and then meet up with some guy on the other side of the world and sit down in a outdoor cafe and talk about peak oil.

... when *you* are the one who meets up with that other guy who travelled 22,000 km and sit down and talk about peak oil

... when your colleagues blogroll you on their blogs as "Mr Peak Oil".

... when your colleagues introduce you to new colleagues as "the peak oil guy".

... when you can convert gallons to litres, miles to kilometres, metric tons to barrels and km/l to mpg without skipping a beat.

... when sometimes you might not be too sure what day it is but you are able to tell people that we use up over 84 million barrels per day every day no matter what day it is.
