I keep hearing the term 'demand destruction' thrown around a lot like it's nothing. Maybe demand destruction should really be called 'economy destruction' or 'lifestyle destruction'. Demand destruction and capitalist economies don't mix well. Wink

John Seymour's 'The New Complete Guide To Self-Sufficiency For Realists And Dreamers' is a book some people on this forum might consider investing in.
It covers all areas needed for self-sufficiency using plain english, diagrams, and covers all equipment you need, how to set out a farm, if you don't have the money possible ideas to get there.
It also covers chopping wood, killing pigs, what mushrooms you can eat from the wilds, how to set out an allotment, when to harvest, how to store food without modern refridgerators, and host of other things. Here's an extract from the foreword:

As a result people are becoming less self-reliant and more dependent than has ever been seen in history. I have always embarked on an enterprise without the faintest idea of how to do it - but I have always ended up with the thing done and with a great deal more knowledge than when I started.
If things really do get serious and survival starts becoming a real issue, it would be a priceless reference to have to hand for those in urban lifestyles who use the supermarkets and work highly specialised office jobs.
Even from an investment perspective, I'd think the value of the book (£20) is likely to rise considerably if things start going seriously bad, and for young people, we're almost certainly going to be in a more self-reliant/chaotic society at the most by our senior years (likely less than that).
