They are talking about who will replace retiring NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue. For John Madden, it says:

Quote:
Possible Drawbacks: Pat Summerall becomes voice of NFL Films; Peak Oil leads to higher crude prices, which increases the cost of gas, which makes using the Madden Cruiser more expensive, which ultimately bankrupts the league; fiendish terrorist plot to assassinate the commish ends badly for stand-in/body double Frank Caliendo.

For those who aren't (American) football fans...John Madden is a well-known sportscaster who has a terrible fear of flying. So much so, that rather than fly to game venues, he has a custom bus drive him wherever he needs to go. Even if Monday Night Football is in San Diego one week and New England the next, he gets there in his bus.

That is hillarious that they care about affording a bus, but not a flight?

PO getting some pub in the sporting limelight. Pretty cool. ps, im a sports junkie, so i know all about madden and his cruiser. scared of flying, what a wuss he is. I think because he is so fat, he wants to travel in his madden-mobile so he can eat all he wants, whenever he wants, and not little bags of peanuts on his flights.

He'd probably be flying first class, if he wasn't scared of flying. He'd be getting much better than peanuts. And much bigger seats than the peons back in coach.

John Madden worried about Peak Oil... that's the best thing I've heard all week.

I was shocked while reading this:

Scroll down to the part about John Madden, and his disadvantages to be the new NFL Commissioner.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hruby/060321

Admittedly, I don't know how many people other than myself read Page 2, but most of these writers also appear on Sportscenter.
