UK Government to Shut Down GSM Networks
| Quote: | | Mobile Gazette has learned of a shock move by the British Government - it has decided to take back the part of the radio spectrum currently used for GSM networks in the UK, and will force mobile operators to run a 3G-only service in the future. |
Some scary stuff... ! |

stupid wankers. socialist dependents can screw off with inpunity.
Cars are dangerous weapons and the right to operate is granted and licensed by the community, as are conditions for use. Including those cameras. _________________

I don't know about Great Britain, but in the early 1900s in the U.S., mobility was recognized as a right, even if it was by an automobile. The courts now often ignore these cases, given their inherent biases against individual freedom and towards bureacratic authority and control.
These cameras are a blatant violation of privacy. What is interesting is that a helium-neon laser of at least 5 mW, no more than 4 mm diameter, and no attenuation could burn a permanent white spot into the cameras. If only more people knew this...
The engineer that blew the camera apart should have stolen its remains. Might be able to scrap some nice components from it. _________________ The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson |

[quote=.]LONDON (AFP) - Britain is becoming a "surveillance society," where CCTV cameras, credit card analysis and travel movements are used to track people's lives minute by minute, a report suggested.
The 140-page document, produced by academic group the Surveillance Studies Network, warns that people's lives will be monitored even more in the next decade by the government, the public sector, employers and big business.
Britain is ranked bottom of the democratic Western world and alongside Russia for its record on protecting individual privacy in a table published Thursday by Privacy International, a human rights watchdog.
There are up to 4.2 million CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras -- about one for every 14 people or nearly 10 percent of those around the world -- with ever-more sophisticated technology.
Every person is caught on camera about 300 times each day.

I have known this for about a year now. If I were a Brit I'd start walking around in public with a paper bag over my head.
What could they do?
Arrest me?
Maybe it would start a trend? Imagine thousands of people peacefully protesting in this manner. _________________ Signature Coming Soon - Be Patient |

It would not lead you very far...
If small number of peoples begin to protest this way, they would be arrested, fined etc.
If larger number started to protest, then technology would be upgraded to take high resolution infrared images. |

If you can be arrested for wearing a brown paper bag over your head with a smilie face, then it's time for a revolution. _________________ Signature Coming Soon - Be Patient |

No, really that's silly. but....
I live in the uk. It is perfectly normal to shred your personal documents whilst not worrying about the amount of information held by corporataions. It is a reality that you cannot buy a piece of electronic hardware without giving your address, I mean like a cpu or hard drive or something.
we are watched. but it has not come together yet.
its going to though |

Come on, you can always give a fake address (or show a gas bill found in a dump as a "proof"), as long as you pay cash. As long as you do not spend more than GBP 2000 this way, noone will report you.
It may come handy to buy you new TV that way, if you are not intending to pay licence fee later.
All, what you lose is a warranty (electronic equipment is quite realiable anyway, by myself I never needed to "draw" benefits from computer or TV warranty). |
