Qian Qichen, one of the main architects of China's foreign policy, in a commentary in the English-language China Daily newspaper:

"The current U.S. predicament in Iraq serves as another example that when a country's superiority psychology inflates beyond its real capability, a lot of trouble can be caused."

There goes Taiwan.

I like China, but you know they are drooling for that island. I bet Kim Jong Il, is just itching to cross the DMZ. I mean, the entire world is seeing the U.S. army at its weakest right now. Sure shows you what our tax dollars are paying for. All that high tech, state-of-the-art equipment and we're still getting our asses kicked.

I know thats usually how it works (Revolutionary war, Vietnam, USSR-Afghan war, etc.) Next time, we should go low-tech and see what happens. Maybe take a few pounds off some DooM players, put a gun in their hand and see what happens. It'll bring a whole new meaning to the term "camping." (as it is used in the gaming world.)

Why does everyone think we are getting our asses kicked in Iraq?

1100 dead Americans.

Heck we kill that many Americans ourselves right here at home every month.

No matter if you agree with the invasion of Iraq or not, seizing an entire country in days, and maintaining an occupation for months while facing a dedicated and growing insurgency, and only losing 1100 troops is hardly "getting our asses kicked"

I guess you can make that argument, but we're still not winning it. Interesting that you said we kill that many Americans at home every month. Maybe we could drop off all the convicts in Iraq and force them to fight for us. Ok, that probably wouldn't work (I could see them just joining the insurgency) but if it did, that'd be pretty cool. Maybe if they actually lasted to a certain time, they could go free or something.

I don't think there are "winners" in war... Both sides lose a lot... Iraq is going to take a long time, a lot of money, and a lot of patience. I favor a quick pull out of majority of troops with 1 year.

All we need is some protection for the pipelines...

Pity the ordinary Iraqi. First, they get screwed by Saddam, then they get crapped on by the US government. Peak oil can not come fast enough for them. At least when their oil reservoirs have been pumped dry the rest of the world will sod off and leave them in peace.

The US will continue to be the world's only superpower until it can't afford to anymore. Iraq is all about money, or lack of it. You have to pick your battles wisely. You can win all the battles and lose the war for various reasons, such as running out of resources. Iraq is just one battle in a bigger war. I think it was a poorly chosen battle, partly because of the global alienation it caused, but also because of the ROI it has brought (or lack of it.)

Uh, Frank the Tank:

You HAVE heard about the latest pipeline destruction in Iraq, right? Confused

They call it the worst attack yet. I call it the end of the beginning. The resource wars have started in earnest. It only gets bigger and bloodier from here. All because we just HAVE to "stay the course" of the Oil & Gas Industrial Age...except, of course, that we can't. And THEY can't catch on to that (or us, either). Mad

I disagree,I fail to see how they are being crapped on.

They resist because they want us to leave, what they can't seem to comprehend is the fact that the longer they resist the longer we'll be there.

If they would just stop shooting at us and blowing us up we can rebuild their infrastructure and get outta dodge. We don't wanna be there anymore than they want us to be.
