Just curious if all these articles and forums would be available on DVD in the future.
There is a wealth of information, a little entertainment, and allot of crazy stuff, but all of it would be handy on a DVD when working off line, or post peak when die off starts...
To the moderators:
Any plans of selling a data DVD or selling mirror services? |

Like what? "Peak Oil: The Greatest Hits" haha.
But really, that's a pretty good idea and could be combined with something I was thinking of. I was thinking that we should start combining all of our knowledge that is definitive by having committees for each topic (resources, farming, TP, renewables, etc). Each committee can research their subject intensely and without prior judgment (ethanol is stupid, etc). Then we have a separate section for those 'finals' (plus additions as needed). Then each of these can be downloadable and thus put onto DVD's, CD's, etc. That way people won't have to pour through 60 pages of the biofuels debate to find out what to do (by themselves off the grid). |

mekrob,
Great idea... peakoil.com could marshal the raw data on DVD and then add analsys, opinions, resources, and so forth...
great to have as America gets more black outs and brown outs...
I'll miss PO when my CLEC, RBOC or Cable operator can't keep the lights on...
A PO DVD would be like a PDR (medical bible) used by doctors.
Lets call it PoDR |

I had been saving my favorite threads offline so I could use them as handy references when nessesary. Especially the planning for the future forum I'm really thinking about finding a good mass printer and printing the whole damn thing. Paper doesn't get erased the next time we swap servers by accident. ( has only happened once and only to a few posts, but still, worrysome, especially in this age of distributed servers)
But all in all, that's not such a bad idea. The actual CD's don't cost alot.
One thing to consider though, it's not just the knowledge, it's the dialogue that results in the knowledge. The community that is peakoil would be very hard to replace. That's one reason I'm going to try to get as many of us as I can together at this year's MREA fair in Custer, Wisconsin. It's a great place in general, and very much a peaker's home. MREA homepage
What ya say folks, let's make it a party to remember! _________________ Azreal60

Wouldn't it be simpler to amass all the information into one archived ISO, RAR or ZIP and make it available via Bit Torrent or something like that.
Still being able to view the information in you browser, or something else. |

www.wikipedia.org
Many websites use the code and structure of wikipedia to build encyclopedias that everyone can edit. In the five years wikipedia has been going (I think,) wikipedia is reckoned to be as comprehensive as the Encyclopedia Brittanica and about as accurate and reliable.
A peak oil wiki would allow members of the website to construct an encyclopedia, which could potentially be easily stored offline. |

I'm not exactly sure what a wiki is. If your refering to an entrance on wikipedia, last I checked ours was in danger of being deleted. I couldn't figure out why, but I'm very new when it comes to wikis. Some education on them would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Azreal60
