How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

There's a difference between negotiating skillfully in trade deals and such and organizing coups to overthrow democratically elected officials in order to replace them with despots, my friend. Not to mention invading a tiny defenseless country after country.
What we are seeing today is global blowback against our foreign policy of the past 56 years.

Very glad we got it visable, because I think this will be a useful explanitory tool. Plus it provides alot of background from a non US perspective. That part was useful in and of itself. _________________ Azreal60

ROBERT NEWMAN - FROM CALIBAN TO THE TALIBAN (500 YEARS OF HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION)
Full 90 minute stand up performance captured live at the Pavilion Theatre, Brighton in 2004.
This is the story of a 500 year global terror campaign waged with goodwill to all. It starts with a 1609 Bermuda shipwreck and takes us via the Berlin - Baghdad railway, Sandinista guerrillas and Dr Watson in northwest Kandahar to the USA's good works in Vietnam, Guatemala, El Salvador, Cambodia and Chile.
The story's happy ending is how Britain's philanthropic mission to Iraq has made the world safe for democracy and given us all that optimism about the future we all enjoy so much today.
This 90 minute live DVD was recorded at Robert's sell-out gigs at the Brighton Corn Exchange theatre, during the 2003 Paramount Comedy Festival. See Robert's critically acclaimed From Caliban to the Taliban set in its entirety. Directed by Dan Martin of Low Key Productions. _________________ Let us make him who shall nourish and sustain us. A comedian as a peak oil spokesman? How appropriate... _________________ "Production of useful work is limited by the laws of thermodynamics, but the production of useless work seems to be unlimited."
I regged twice there in an attempt to gain access without success.
Maybe it has a 24 hour time delay between registration and access? _________________ Kiss Hank's Ass And He Will Give You a Million Dollars
