For some reason trying to convince the world of peak is as futile as trying to convince pirates to be nice.

The relevant question, that US voters should be relentlessly asking of our elected officials, is, "What if you're wrong?"

Well, if Bush is wrong and we aren't addicted to oil, then the conversion away from it even with just moderate price pressure should be relatively comfortable and painless.

If Bush is right, and we are addicted to oil, then the conversion away can only happen if extreme duress is applied while there still happens to be a sizeable amount of produceable oil in the US. IE, the prices must be driven up. I think he may have underestimated our addiction, or may be planning some more, um, activity, after the Nov 06 election. Afterall, a lame duck who doesn't intend to do anything more than retire on a big, protected ranch after office has no reason not to do some truly radical things after the midterms, no?

Word to the wise... Buckle your seat belts.
