Planting trees continues to be an effective greenhouse tactic

Quote:
A multidisciplinary team from the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Greenhouse Accounting, the Australian National University, CSIRO, Ensis and the University of New South Wales has reaffirmed the value of tree planting to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

In a paper to be published today in the journal Functional Plant Biology the team questions some findings of a recent study published in the journal Nature which demonstrated that living and dead plant tissues emit methane - a major greenhouse gas. The Nature article led various commentators to question the value of planting trees as a greenhouse mitigation option.

"The present calculations must be seen as a preliminary attempt to assess the potential global significance of the results found by Keppler et al. on a basis of limited information," Dr Kirschbaum says. "They are likely to be revised as further information becomes available. One thing, however, is known: planting trees is not a waste of time. It is an effective way of slowing climate change."

Planting trees can save our world. Cutting down of trees should be discouraged. When you cut down a tree , simultaneouslt plant one too.that could maintain the balance to some extent. It is not logical to say"NO Cutting of trees", coz man depends on trees for a whole range of his needs.Planting trees in urban areas should be promoted.

Just wanted to share it. It’s on an organization that is dedicated to planting trees along Houston's streets and freeways. I got the link from this site. It’s a sure Check for all you people http://www.dickweekley.com/affiliations.html

But is it actually effective, or is it just theoretically effective? That is, can benefits be seen due to current planting of trees, or is this just hopefulness that if we start planting trees it will help?

When will we begin planting all these trees, one wonders?
