Wolves attacking people is an urban legend, as for polar bears it would likely be me hunting them. Just don't eat the liver, it is packed with toxic amounts of vitamin A, enough to kill you.
You should not eat polar bear meat at all.
Its meat contains some parasite, which then developes in human muscle/organs, leading to their failure.
Some Arctic explorers had learned this a hard way.
Note that substantial percentage of polar bears are infected with this.
Wolves may not attack healthy "running" human but they would like to have a bait from a dying one (mean all members of your commune in the winter at -30*C or so).

Vikings were not wiped out by the harsh canadian winter or starvation, it is thought that the Vikings left or were killed because of the hostile native american people. Had it not been for that the Vikings would have made a cozy settlement.

Vikings had failed in GREENLAND, due to harsh weather conditions.
In Canada there was few reasons, which we do not understand well, but you may be right.

LOL, sciencegirl, you're funny. You don't present yourself very well; good luck recruiting.
Seriously though, really. If you come on here saying "Here's my plan, who wants to join me?" and then call names at whoever saying your plan is full of holes (which it is, practically, an impractical plan), what success do you really expect to have finding people to join you? You want someone who will say "OK!" to whatever you say, because you are going to be the boss, the leader, and if you behave in real life as you have exhibited here, unreasonably, you will be leading your group (what group? - group of uncritical followers?) into sure disaster. Part of planning is to look at weak points in a plan, "holes," which people here are pointing out. _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post.

Ludi, you are very negative. I have lived in the woods for 1 month with nothing but a knife and a flint, I survived. My plan needs to be worked out more, that is true, but this plan is still in it's infancy. How long have you ever survived in the woods. Quit being so dang blasted negative, if you tell yourself it won't work enough times, then it won't work. Having plans and trial runs can turn many failures into success.
I will be on vacation in 45 minutes, then I won't post baCK FOR 1 WEEK, but I will return.

Sciencegirl,
Well I hope you have a few tanks, aircrafts, anti-aircraft guns , automatic weapons, LOTS of land, and LOTS of well trained fighters.
Oh Oh and LOTS of oil to run all those machines, because your sweet loving government will have oil. Good Luck with your commune I'm CHEERING for you . =) _________________ Stop Breeding!

Take care everyone,
Shauna
I rather crticize your elected location, which does not appear to be a friendly one.
Because small number of Inuits can survive there, it does not mean that you could form viable commune in this regions.
There is plenty of regions within US with hundreds of miles of scarcely inhabited land far more ammenable to your project.
Why do something a difficult way if you could try easier one?

Huh? Don't recall telling you it wouldn't work, just that you're going about it in what I consider an impractical, irrational way.
I'm too old to go live in the wild and have no plans to. Those are YOUR plans, remember? I can tell myself your plans won't work a gazillion times and it will have no effect on my life or yours.
I find your manner of thought and expression to be irrational. I'd be amused if I wasn't so gosh darn negative.

I gotta say this is exactly what the Planning forum is for!
Though not what I had invisioned.
Shauna, I hope you have a nice vacation out there in the woods with only your Bowie and flit. Was the 45 minute deadline about when you caught the bus or when you left the office – 4:44pm on Thursday?

Really though, it is interesting to see the exchange here. And to see SG trying to get a signoff on her plan to recruit 50 likeminded backwoods soloists to run off to the Great White North and start a commune.
Does it seem funny to anyone else but me that a soloist is thinking to start a commune?
I have been in the woods for a spell (never with only a knife and flint btw) and I certainly wouldn't want to rely on people I only met recently for my survival.
But I don’t want to talk behind anyone's back so I’ll leave it at that for…

Wild thing, Wild thing, I think I love you
but I wanna know for sure
So come on and hold me tight
I love you
Wild thing, you make my heart sing
you make everything groovy
Wild thing, Wild thing, I think you move me
but I wanna know for sure
so come on and hold me tight
you move me
Wild thing, you make my heart sing
you make everything groovy

Spent summers 20 years ago near James Bay. About 1 hours Cessna flight west. used to work as a diamond driller. And I can tell you that back then if you could handle the skeeters, you could handle anything. But as for being so far out that no one would come after you, well that will never happen. You would have to be experts in camaflage to keep a commune secret. And that was back then when there was not beavers and otters flying over head every hour. Now that the north has been opened up to mining for diamionds, it's like a zoo. Good thing if you want your settlement to gain economically but bad if you want to remain a secret.

Wow. Three whole pages on this silly stuff about this silly girl. And I read them ALL. I must a) be really bored, and b) have WAY too much free time. Going to bed now. Have to pick raspberries in the morning.

Silly indeed, I am back from vacation, there is 3 pages of this commune post, and not one person has taken interest. Thats okay though, to each their own. The lack of interest has convinced me not to start a commune. I will stock pile gold, silver and food, and if things get too bad I will slip into northern Saskatchewan or southern NWT and disappear.
Also for information purposes, the Inuits typically live on the Tundra of nothern Canada, Northern Saskatchewan and southern NWT have tons of tree's and is not considered tundra.
