What is up with that? I rely on the forum as an information shortcut, yet a gateway for discussion that is important.
The forum section is shorter recently. Why?
Say it isn't true. Peak Forum? NOoooooooooo

You're right! It's definitely down from last year.
I fear we have reached and past "peak forum" and fully expect further depletion in the future. _________________ Life results from the non-random selection of randomly generated replicators |

The fact that only the most recent forum discussion topics are listed in the right hand column fosters the creation of new topics. This is obviously not a bad thing in itself, but the result is that a lot of topics bleed to death quickly after disappearing from the front page list. In the forum itself, this results in a tremendous amount of dead wood. Instead of revitalising an old topic, people prefer to recreate a new topic when they want to ask/discuss something.
I would like to suggest to also include other shortcuts to topics based on: (one or more of the following)
- Most recent added comment
- Most active in last [time period]
- Random topic
- Moderator's Choice of last 'X' news submissions

There was an incident earlier today where Saint AIM9X went postal and required a fair amount of culling. Hopefully nothing important disappeared in the process. _________________ "Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers." - Henry Louis Mencken |

| Maybe it's shrinking because a lot of people are focused on the war in Israel, and the moderators think its irrelevant so banish those threads. |

There are a few threads about it. Check Open Discussion.
It's currently a bit off-topic but certainly not irrelevant.
If you use the "since last visit" link to the top right of the forums index, it will include Open discussion and the Hall of Flames, as Last 24 hours does not).
If you ever have any concerns PM one of us. _________________ "If you are a real seeker after truth, it's necessary that at least once in your life you doubt all things as far as possible"-Rene Descartes

I still have a really huge topic list in my list? Tech problem? That or did you log in and out? It wouldn't affect your 24 hour list, but sure does kill the since last visit list. _________________ Azreal60

Maybe it is shrinking because we discussed pretty much everything from almost every possible angel..
Kind of interesting is that the ME is now in flames, hundred of thousands civilians displaced and without basic infrustructure after Israeli invasion, attempts to drag into conflict Syria as well as Iran are more than obvious and this forum is virtually silent.
I do understand that the majority of US folks gets their news pretty much filtered out by the msm but the "theoretical threads on wars" were ratcheting here recently in double digit pages and now you have your albeit small/intro war and there is silence..

As Aaron points out, I guess there is quite a bit of activity going on, just not many new discussions.
As far as the war, there actually does seem to be plenty of discussion going on, but all in Open Discussion forum, which doesn't display in "last 24 hours." Open Discussion seems to be the place to put threads that aren't outright taken off the board, but relegated to the back of the room.
If anything is going to start off the big resource war it's this war. Iran and Syria may be on the brink of entering, the U.S. is looking increasingly irrelevant, Saudia Arabia and Russia, the two new energy superpowers increasingly appear to be the countries who will come to have some influence here. If this war isn't going to highlight our energy problems, than I don't know what war would. |

The incredibly shrinking forum (today) swelled to unfortunate levels -- of what I assumed to be testosterone-infused brisket-bashing between frustrated people.
If all the energy between those forum posters had been spent, say, planting a garden, or reading to someone confined to bed, the world would have been better for it-even for just a day.
"Best",
cynthia
And thank you Mods for what you do. |

Look at the bottom bar at the end of a thread. You will see this:
