We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

They put my mom on dialysis at Methodist yesterday. I'll be flying into Houston on Saturday.
First time I have ever really been afraid to fly.
I'm going to do my best to convince my sister to get out of Ft. Bend county. Wish me luck. _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. You know, THEM.
Not the first time I've had to do something that was kinda scary. Mom needs me. _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. Seems sort of something where you have really no option to back out of it seems.
Just read an article in the German where the first time they move into a tone of 'no hope' (es gibt keinen Grund zur Hoffnung) when it comes to climate change. For me as an old PeakOiler this is refreshing. I can't stand these statements that if WE (whoever that is) don't do anything within the next 10 years everyting is lost, Bla, Bla, Bla.
Reality probably is that the game has been lost way far more back than we expect. The Romans were responsible for the deforestation of the Mediteranian Sea, the blue print of the current matrix stems from ancient times! It is not about conservation, being better than your neighbor in recycling or driving or not driving a SUV. Conservation just pushes the peak further ahead. And as much as this does buy one time in the world of finance (going in debt), the pay-back will be even worse which is probably what James Lovelock tries to communicate in his new book, the Revenge of Gaia.
So the Greenland Ice Cap will melt during the historically super short time span of the next 100 years. Even if all burning of hydrocarbons would stop 100% tomorrow the effect of the last 150 years of buring wood, coal and its derivatives is bound to hit hard.Spiegel online

That's what they want.
Thanks roger. I just bumped this again to remind myself why I won't be afraid.
My sincere thanks. _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. But marriage is a recognition of a spiritual identity.” - Joseph Campbell
