Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

They really screwed up when they developed the Terminator gene. Sorry, but, I would be quite a supporter of GM if they hadn't created that. That changed those companies from relatively benevolent producers of an optional product that a farmer could choose; to companies that intend to acquire a physical monopoly on the means of growing food.
I love to buy a superior product, when it is optional, and I can choose a cheaper or free but less productive item if I want. However, the way they are pursuing the market, they do not want it optional, and they will find a way to charge you for it, even if you do not want it.
And if raising some red hearing health issues helps to beat up on companies that pursue such policies, I'm all for it. _________________ abundance fleeting

The span of the current drought equals the multi-year dry period of the 1950s. It could go down as the worst ever without substantial rainfall by the end of the year...
..."We've never seen it go from bad to worse this fast before," he said. "It doesn't look like it's going to improve anytime soon."
We're seeing a lot of things go bad very quickly, aren't we? This had better be a cyclical thing and not a climatic trend.
Here we are wringing our hands and crying and stressing over the Peak Oil wolf at the front door, while the Global Warming velociraptor is about to come busting through the back door.
It's bad all over. Last weekend I went north to the ranch 25 mi North of the Texas border. It's disturbing to see nature outside of it's balance. The deer are all skinny and the does are having their fawns later in the season. Many ponds are non existant. There was almost no sign of any wildlife. Hay from Arkansas at is fetching $75 a bail in Texas vs the normal $35. _________________ Hair in my eyes like a highland steer, spring in my step like a white tailed deer. What was that people we're saying? Oh, the third world will get the worst of it....
If you are not careful, somebody is going to say something like "Please do something".

Purely by the law of large numbers, there is always someplace that must be having exceptional conditions.
If you picture the bell curve and apply it to "weather conditions". then there will be a tail at one end that is too dry and another tail at the other end that is too wet. That means that a few places will be in a drought and a few other places will be flooded, but the meat of the curve will be fairly normal.

I bet they are the same people that are calling for our cars to be filled with ethanol now so we may all live a cleaner, greener lifestyle.
AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!
It's not possible to engineer crops that would be highly productive after months of zero or near-zero rainfall.
