| Quote: | Energy prices jumped Friday after meteorologists flagged the possibility of a very strong storm developing in the U.S. Gulf Coast early next week, refocusing attention on the 2006 hurricane season which has proven mild thus far....

"It would hit south of New Orleans just south of the (oil and gas) rigs," he said. "What bothers me is that storms that have moved over hot pockets of water have developed into very intense storms. When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita passed over hot waters of Gulf they both became very intense storms." |

That's a pretty off-the-wall prediction. If they're right, they qualify as geniuses. Let's keep an eye on it and see. _________________ "Thank you for attending the oil age. How is that off-the-wall? It has the symptoms of a storm emerging and there are hot spots which, like Rita and Katrina, could turn it into a massive storm.
| Quote: | | Very warm waters in the Gulf, low wind shear and a low pressure disturbance coming up from the Yucatan Peninsula could emerge in the South Central part of the Gulf late Monday and into early Tuesday and develop into a hurricane, said Jim Rouiller, senior energy meteorologist with Planalytics in Philadelphia, Pa. |
| Quote: | | The National Hurricane Center wouldn't confirm that any storms in the Gulf Coast were developing but several meteorologists agreed that all the conditions are present for a storm to form. |
I remember when Katrina was a tropical storm. That was only a few days before it crushed NOLA.
True, it has been eerily calm, but couldn't it just be the calm before a storm? _________________ I want to put out the fires of Hell, and burn down the rewards of Paradise. Its off the wall to call a storm and its landfall at this point and the odds of the guy being right is nearly nil.
That being said he may be right and I certainly hope so as that is how I will make my 100k this year damnit!! |

Well, if it forms just above the Yucatan, then there is a pretty good chance that it would move North to the US oil regions, not to mention it would already hit Cantarell most likely. And the Yucatan is south of NOLA and the US oil producing regions, so what he says is completely correct; he does not forecast it hitting NOLA, but just being South of it.
Hitting the US oil region? This one is doubtful, but not off-the-wall as we've seen it happen twice last year.
No US conspiracy on this one? _________________ I want to put out the fires of Hell, and burn down the rewards of Paradise. They block the way to God. I do not want to worship from fear of punishment or for the promise of reward, but simply for the love of God. - Rabia |

There have been seasons in the past where June - August were complete duds, followed by a devastating September. I think the Carla season was one such example. _________________ abundance fleeting

Tropical storms would be nice, that's for sure Ludi, but please, no hurricanes.
Be careful what you wish for. Perhaps those folks in El Paso can send us some of their rain.
My rainwater cisterns are needing a fill-up! I'm back to using that hard city water until the next rain.
This is the third time since Dec. 2004 that I've had to use city water for the house instead of rainwater.

A bit of history from NOAA
| Quote: | Hurricane Andrew was the most destructive United States hurricane of record. It blasted its way across south Florida on August 24, 1992. NOAA's National Hurricane Center had a peak gust of 164 mph—measured 130 feet above the ground—while a 177 mph gust was measured at a private home.
Andrew caused 23 deaths in the United States and three more in the Bahamas. The hurricane caused $26.5 billion in damage in the United States, of which $1 billion occurred in Louisiana and the rest in south Florida. The vast majority of the damage in Florida was due to the winds. |
It's still early ... |
