Sad that we use more oil than the next five nations combined. (!)

Startling to think that China now consumes 1/3rd the oil used by the USA. How long at current growth rates assuming unlimited supply before they equal the USA consumption? _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little

I need to sleep so I can help take care of my family, but before I do...
Excellent thread!
I would also like to explore the models of projected consumption based on current usage trends in these countries at least. Is there a site that gives projections the way Stu has set them up for this thread?
Somehow seeing projections for these countries in five, ten, fifteen, and twenty years seems like it would be helpful.
I'll look around when I can, but if anyone else can do so-- could you let us know if you find any such helpful projections?
(Even a single global projection ... maybe I'll check my P.O. books as well...)
Gotta go sleep so i can go work..... _________________ pedaling for peace and ecojustice -- Gary

According to the graph above the world consumption of oil per day is
20,517,000
6,684,000
5,288,000
2,625,000
2,574,000
2,555,000
2,280,000
2,206,000
1,975,000
1,896,000
1,871,000
1,830,000
1,756,000
1,728,000
1,593,000
1,551,000
1,150,000
1,003,000
909,000
858,000
62,849,000
1 billion barrels every two weeks, that is a lot of oil.

Look at Iran.
Everybody thinks they live in caves (which it isn't), but they consume almost the same amount of oil as my G7 country, which has 1 car every 2 persons (!) and 40% of electricity from oil (yes, we're in big troubles).
In their foot, wouldn't you build some nuke plants to keep selling oil at growing prices instead of simply using it? _________________ **no english mothertongue**

Two surprises to me are the relatively high consumption in South Korea, which uses more fuel by a lesser population than France, Italy or the U.K.
Second surprise is that Australia uses just over one-third the oil Canada does, but it has two-thirds the people. Thus it would seem that Australia is approximately twice as oil efficient as Canada. In many respects, Australia and Canada share similar GDP per capita, low density populations, long distances and a high mix of raw materials and agricultural produciton in their economies.
One likely argument is that Canada is so much colder, but most Canadian oil consumption is tranport, not heating. Heating is mostly done by natural gas these days, and a lot by hydroelectric.

I think if you look at a population density map you will also see that Australias population tends to be in much more dense clusters than Canada so transportation is a lot less energy expensive. _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little
