Lol, Aaron. I don't know what PeakSpeak is, and I wish I was an Overlord ( what ever that is) but don't you think that it is weird that we are continents apart, yet we speak to each other as if it is nothing?

Man, I've gotta visit the US someday, preferably before peak oil. I hope they let me in... Smile

I was up late doing some reading on various young college men drunk drownings and it seems it not confined to the Mississippi. Read plenty of Lake drownings in Madison, Milwaukee, and other rivers N, S, E, and West of here.

Luke (who died on Friday) had a friend that was found in the park where he went in (Its Riverside..thats where the levee is) and was taken to detox. His BAC was a .26. I know atleast one of the others had a .30 or higher. That is freaken TANKED. I was talking to a cop who said he had another cop give him a PBT (whatever they call that device that measures BAC) and he registered a .19 and he said he was trashed. Another guy i talked to said that you haven't been drunk until you crap your pants??? I haven't done that yet!

I think the blackouts, hangovers, embarassing sexual escapades and such are just fine. I don't want to experience crapped pants.

I have been to Lacrosse a number of times and have sampled the local vintage (old smile) with the delightful locals.

You will have to tell the board about what happens when the mayflies come out.

Anyhow, the Deming approach to this is that statistically, if people have been drinking their butts off for decades and not been drowning to any appreciable extent and then all of a sudden it happens nine times, something sinister is up. Check these kids for antidepressants. The interaction might be pushing them over the edge, so to speak.

I recently got things working and looking for some visitors. The site produces an interactive map of wells in the state. Once at the site you will see a link to the map. From there, zoom in for more wells. Clicking on a well will display a balloon window. Be sure to click on the API to fetch more information including production history. The underlying data is only for Mississippi (28,000+ wells (13th in US)).

Give the site a visit and post your comments. I suppose the same could be done for other areas.

Gulf Shores Alabama has undergone a similar transition after being severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

Hi rise condos going up everywhere. A 1200 sq ft unit can cost as much as $500000.

My friend lives there and tells me that those buildings are standing mostly empty now.

He also tells me that they are on the verge of a potable water shortage, yet the hectic pace of construction continues. As if the planners there have no concept of limits to natural resources. Oh yeah, that's the national mindset here in the good ol' US of A.

Anyhow, as a result of "housing appreciation", of his 1200 square foot, badly weathered (having survived every storm hit since 1984), shabby looking house on the lagoon, its "value" is over $500k, and his property taxes increased 40% just last year. They've triple since 1999.

I wouldn't give $80k for that house, as it is about to fall down, is leaky, and of course is in the bullseye every year for hurricanes.

Not to mention that a 3 meter sea level increases will submerge it, along with most of the town, save the concrete high rises that sprout like mushrooms from cow piles everywhere you look there.

I haven't yet figured out where the developers of these things think the buyers are going to come from. Its not as if the average American can spend $500k for a property they will visit maybe a few times a year. Yet there seems to be sufficient occupancy capacity there for thousands of such. Where are all the millionaires going to come from? Perhaps they are all Republicans fleecing money out of the Katrina relief funds?

The short sightedness and greed of people in this country never ceases to amaze me.
