I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

You should have bought the 870 with the 6 shot magazine. They are available here in California.

I have all sorts of 00 buckshot, but it's from the 80's. I think I should use it up in target practice next fall. Does that make sense? The stuff doesn't last forever.
I don't use it for hunting, as a slug takes a deer down much better. I think I'll get some new shells next fall anyway.
I'm thinking of a new mossberg. I'd like to get a little newer model. I have a maverick 88, and it works well. I'd like to get a simple shotgun with just a couple of chokes, for turkey and deer.
Actually, properly stored ammo will probably outlast you

I no have posted for months. Maybe I shouldn't post no more. BUT, I happened to be in a MALL (for the first time in years) and went and peaked at a sports store guns waiting a few minutes for someone to meet. There were these various pistols, and I don't even remember the brand names, but these neat looking military combat pistols that cost maybe $3,000 apiece versus the cheap looking stuff you guys talk about. Any opinions on this stuff (before I talk to the salesman about why)... They sure look a lot better built, with stainless steel interior barrel within an exterior barrel.
What about getting mega-phones? Maybe with remote microphones, even maybe with motion detector set-off to initate recorded message to warn away night or away-from-home visitors? Maybe even use one (string it to a nearby telephone pole) and when riots and dozens dead at mall/stores, you could announce "Thank you for visiting Walmart and have a nice day).

My opinion, depends on the manufacturer. You can get a Low end Sig Pro, but it's still pricey. Or go all out with all metal, stainless steel. Really, the more metal, teh more the gun will cost, but it's worth it, if you can afford it.
I like my P89 Ruger stainless steel 9mm autopistol. Sturdy so far, and 15 round clips. Bout as accurate as any other decent pistol.

You pegged it. They look neat. If you want a gun that looks neat, buy some gun store prize piece. If you want a gun to defend yourself, look at what the people who do that carry. Glock. Colt 45. Sig. A gun is a tool. Look at buying it the same way you look at buying a drill. Do you really want a $3000 chrome plated ultra-delux power drill? Personally I'll take a Dewalt or a Milwaukee Electric. Ugly. Sturdy. Reliable. Same things I love about my Glock. _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.

Also, which would be more accurate, the new DPMS 24" target 308 or an M1A with match barrel?
I'd put my money on the AR. Inherently more accurate platform. You can improve the accuracy of the M1A by bedding the stock, unitizing the gas system, getting a trigger job, and modifying the flash suppressor, but all things being equal, the AR should be the more accurate rifle.
That said, back when I had an M1A Bush, I shot it much better than my M4gery---the M4gery has a much shorter sight radius and a fatter front sight, though, so it's probably not a real fair comparison.

How concerned is everyone here about gun accuracy in the real world?
With the sp-01 I can make a fairly nice 2-3" 10 shot grouping at 15 yards pretty easily. The issue there is me not the gun. Even then I don't think it's much of an issue.
Even when I blast off all 10 rounds as fast as I can I still hit the 7" circle 8 out of 10 times which sucks in target use but the two flyers have always been just a few inches off the paper. If I was aiming at a person's chest all 10 would have landed somewhere. I'm Not saying that I'm going to quit practicing but thats good enough in my mind.
If I was out practicing to be a sniper for long range shots I could see carring about the accuracy of the rifle but guns like the M1A and AK have been used in combat before and been quite successful. I guess I'm saying that I wouldn't turn down an M1A if someone gave me one. Actually it stands a chance of being my main battle rifle. an AR is far more expensive up here then the M1A. _________________ shame on us, doomed from the start

really ?
do you mean garands not m1A ?
man, M1a prices have been going up around here. there are a million AR's around. everyone makes a decent AR now. springfield still gets top $$$ for the m1a.
The springfields are through the roof. The Norinco's are just fine in most peoples books and are ultra popular. The Cheapest AR I've ever seen started at $800 if I remember correctly. _________________ shame on us, doomed from the start

Came across an interesting little video comparing the AK-47 and the M-16. The slow-mo shots are cool---the flex in the AK barrel is something. Be nice to see the whole show---anyone know of a better link?

Saw something at a gun show the other day and forgot to ask what it was. Someone had painted blue-tip 308. Tracers? AP?
US military, I'm pretty sure, does not make a blue tip 308. link There are some aftermarket people that make and sell blue tip 308 incindiary rounds.link _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.
