We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

The Annual Energy Outlook 2007 presents a projection and analysis of US energy supply, demand, and prices through 2030. The projections are based on results from the Energy Information Administration's National Energy Modeling System. The AEO2007 includes the reference case, additional cases examining energy markets, and complete documentation.

Another report saying there will be plenty more oil available on the market in the future than now.
In this report only energy source climbing faster (in absolute terms) than liquids (oil i presume) is coal.
It sees nuclear as stagnant and renewables as moderately up from a low base.
How many here thinks this government agency has any sort of rational or empirical backing for claiming that consumptions of oil can possibly grow to the levels they projec?
Its a sad think that an agency like this refuses to discuss issus of resource depletion, and prospects of peak oil. I searched the pdf and find 0 matches on peak oil and two matches on the word depletion, and those matches were not in paragraphs really descussing depletion. "Energy security" results in 3 matches.
In a 242 page report looking forward to 2030 on the energy situation of USA its wierd how narrow minded and even blind this document seems.

What do you expect from document written by economists and market analysts?
They are also working for government, what suggest that they are failures in their proffession and private companies/corporations had refused to employ them.
The one, who know how to do something is doing it,
the one who doesn't know that is teaching it,
the one who doesn't know how to teach is becoming to be manager of rank directly proportional to ignorance,
and the one who doesn't know even how to manage will work for government. Again his rank is directly proportional to ignorance.

How true this is, but I think there's often another principle at work here.
Governments promote people to their personal level of incompetence.
If you are an efficient typist in private industry you are probably guaranteed keeping your job indefinately.
If you are an efficient typist in a government job you are quickly promoted to secretary. If you are an efficient secretary you are quickly promoted to assistant. If you are an efficient assistant you are quickly promoted to department head. If you are a terrible department head you are not promoted any further and remain a terrible department forever after.
The government job has therefore turned an efficient worker into a terrible one. Well done !!!!
