What possible use would this be to the average PO'er, unless you mean it as a way to communicate with the conspiracy theorist scanner listening brigade in a language they will understand?

Did it take you the entire three days since I posted this to come up with: "conspiracy theorist scanner listening brigade?"

Apparently you have no imagination and for some reason feel terribly threatened by this book review entry.

This book would be of great interest to anyone with a ham radio since it lists channels, frequencies, country call signs, translator channels, subfrequency channels, fire and police 10-codes, etc.
If there is no internet, or phone service, or the POer lives in the boondocks, a ham radio would be a necessity.

You might, in the future, think about trying a more polite way to ask a question (unless you are trying to prove that you are the rudest person on this website).

Ferret I am not even in the top 20 of rudest people on this website, if your skin is that thin I apologize for offending your sensibillities.

In the future if you want to post a review about how wonderful a resource you have discovered is I suggest that you mention its usefulness as you have applied it, as in the Ham radio connection you mention above. Instead you left it to the reader to go find a copy of the book in question and review it for themselves for utility.

If this book is for the average POers edification then you should have said so from the beginning instead of waiting for someone to figuratively poke you in the ribs and ask what is it good for.

It is true that there are many people here who are far more rude than Tanada. Razz

It looks like the book is out of print, but Amazon has several used copies available for under $2.

I often think that Short Wave Radio might move to the information forefront in the years ahead. Thanks Ferretlover.

Tanada, you might not be in the top 20, but you were the first with whom I was confronted.
Thank you for the apology.
I apologize for not being more detailed in my entry. I had thought the subject matter and its usage was self-evident. I will make an effort to be more detailed in the future.
Should anyone have any questions about anything I post, I will be more than happy to discuss it. Peak oil and post peak oil is a very, VERY scary problem and I want to learn from everyone.

I can't put my finger on why, but, for some reason, I have a nagging feeling that ham radios are going to be a serious necessity.. I don't think the internet will disappear, but given any number of circumstances, I think that there is a strong possibility that general consumer usage could somehow be restricted or denied (bear in mind that I have NO idea exactly how it works)..
