We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.
except just for oil, instead of for oil and gas _________________ If everybody became a vegan, peak oil will not be a problem, nor will global warming, deforestation, water shortages, expensive food, famine etc.

Maybe a total cumulative counter - or maybe a count-down timer would be more impressive. Just set it up so the total proven reserves can be changed as 'newer' data comes in
Along these lines, I always thought it would be cool to build a computer model that would simply allow data from millions of individual wells to be input and then sum their estimated future production as a function of time. Might be a fun project if there was any way to get the data to load into it.

True. Plus we won't be consuming the same amount for 29.7 years and then run out, so it's somewhat misleading. _________________ "If you are a real seeker after truth, it's necessary that at least once in your life you doubt all things as far as possible"-Rene Descartes
