Member Quotes
I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Even Greenspan thinks the Iraq war was for oil.

Isn't it your belief that the oil belongs to the Hussein family?

As long as we all use about 3 gallons per day, somebody has to get it for us. If you haven't done anything about your energy consumption, you have no right to gripe about the war. They are just doing what we are asking them to do, drag us in the oil.

The really ridiculous thing is that we could easily use half the oil we are using, and still live a very nice life. People just like driving around in giant hulking machines and living in gigantic energy pig houses. They like it so much that they are willing to have the children of the working poor die for it.

As Ghandi said, there's enough for everyone's need, just not enough for everybody's greed.

Thanks for telling it like it is, Revi. We all have a part in this.

I can't help but wonder, though, if there isn't quite a large segment of the population in NA who really don't understand the situation and so aren't even thinking about reducing consumption. If they were more aware of oil production and supply issues and how this relates to the government's actions, etc., maybe more of them would change their habits.

I recently had the opportunity to discuss this with my uncle, whose opinion was that we cannot live without our cars, could not grow food locally to support our populations and therefore we will always have the oil supply we need to keep the trucks going, etc. He asked me what I was doing to reduce my consumption, and I told him I'm using one-half the gasoline (sometimes even less), reducing water and electricity usage, reusing as many items as possible, learning to garden. I couldn't determine though, from the amount of time I had to speak with him, whether his opinion was based on political beliefs, market information or just not understanding oil depletion issues.

I think that people have been kept in the dark, but that's nothing new. Do you think that the average Roman understood what was happening when the wheat production went down from North Africa, or when the silver mines flooded and their denari became less and less valuable?

I think we are stuck in this society that has trained us from birth to consume. Now we can't consume as much, and that's really a tragedy.

Why do you think Nascar is as big as it is? It's like the ghost dance. We all see those cars zooming around and we feel like the glory days are here again. We were at the top of the world, and consuming like it. Now we are sliding down the backside of Hubbert's peak, and there will never be as much of everything ever again.

The average person doesn't have any idea what's going on. Maybe that's okay. We have to concentrate on making the best of a bad situation.

Note the similarity of facial expressions:

Abdul Sattar Abu Reesha only lasted a few days after this kiss of death.

Sattar abu Reesha lasted a few hours, not a few days after that photo was taken. Instant Karma, or nearly.

I'm sorry but you're two bit lines like "You are either with us or with the terrorists" don't really wash to the average educated person. Save the one liners for Faux News sheeple.

The picture says it all. Figure it out.
