Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Aaron, any suggestions for a text console IRC client (linux) for us primitive types or are we locked into the frames functions etc with an X or windoze client? Does that site have a site/port num for standard IRC? peakoil/6667 for instance....
Thanks!

gnm, check the small print at the bottom of the page:

If you have an IRC client installed, such as mIRC for windows, BitchX for Linux or ircle for mac, you can click here to launch your application and join the channel. Alternatively, connect to irc.efnet.org and join #PeakOil

Well, I can't suggest a Linux console IRC client, but if you find one they are on port 6667, irc.efnet.org, channel #PeakOil. I've been using chatzilla, which is a Firefox add-on IRC client. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin
Nice resource, thanks. I knew about the IRC chat already but hopefully this'll draw more people to it. _________________ My PO Amazon store (shameless plug).
Can we get this thread a sticky? _________________ Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. I popped in a few times, didn't really see too much chatting or any regulars. I think the chat room needs some promotion.... how about a designated chat time once a week?
Sunday seems like a good day when most people are around, something like 4 or 5 o'clock. Call it Peak Oil Sunday Chat.
Maybe we could get some special guests like Simmons to come chat too from time to time.
Hmm, I think I'll start a seperate thread about this see if I can get something going. _________________ Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. BitchX is nice if you're going to be in just that one channel, but not so much if you're in several like myself.
Pitbull and I are working on a statbot to parse channel logs, so we can make a web page that will display neat stuff, the most useful being channel activity times and the most active chatters. This will give people a time frame for when to jump in.
Many people idle around, to anyone that is an IRC vet, dead air is no big deal, as conversation doesn't happen 24/7. When you idle there with a real client, there's no ping timeouts and you can have it beep you when there's any channel activity. Hubbert is a fun bot to abuse, as well we have functions that display current foreign exchange indexes, oil price, precious metal prices, stuff like that.
Thanks for the sticky Aaron! _________________ Reality is agreed perception. Unfortunately there is also a reality imposed by nature.

Went there, learned some things, was silly for a bit, and then found out, according to the stats that I am too stupid to participate.
That was hurtful.
