Would anyone be interested in an internship on a small farm, learning about sustainable gardening, watershed restoration, prairie restoration, and similar topics? This is a wild idea I'm considering, offering an internship on my place.
Just putting out a feeler to see if this is something that would interest folks.... _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post. |

I would love to do something like that, and might even have the time, come next spring/summer, but you'd have to be within commuting distance from NYC... I'm thinking of trying to do a similar thing here in NYC, at one of the small farms there are here in the city. Getting your hands in some dirt certainly beats sitting around reading about it.
But I'm guessing you're pretty far from NYC, if you're involved in prairie restoration, not too many prairies within hollering distance of here.
I bet there are tons of people who would love the experience, though. If you want to get like-minded people, maybe you should post a flyer at a food co-op or put an ad in a CSA newsletter, those are probably the people who would be the most interested and have the least access to an opportunity like that... |

I'm jealous that I don't have the set-up to offer such a great experience!
You might want to consider checking at a college for a agricultural student or even a class who would be interested in the experience... _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |

YEAH!!
I've been thinking about the notion, but I make too much to do it. Just a dream I have when I'm working inside a sulfuric acid tank or at a phosphate plant while wearing a one piece rubber suit in the middle of July.
When I get my farm up and running, this is how I intend to staff it.
For the investment in housing, utilities and some supplies, I get full time help for the duration of the crop.
A typical arrangement is room and board in exchange for labor. I've seen may places offer a stipend as well, ranging from 250 for the season up to $350/week.
The Maine Organic Growers Association has a considerable list of farms with apprenticeship opportunities

I guess you haven't read my many many posts about methods of farming/gardening that require less work! _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post. |

Well seeing as Sarkozy has now got his anti-immigration legislation through the French parliment & we're about to thrown off our land & out of France with no-where else to go except back to England (growl), I'd definitely say, yes please! But I don't think you & I would last 5 minutes together in the same county (despite agreeing on 'almost' all subjects - grin).

I think it would be a wonderful experience. We'll have to swap background information (if you want) Ludi. I'll be working for most of the next 2 years but several weeks (or however much time you intend) to learn the basics would be MUCH appreciated. I'm only 18 so I have a great deal to learn, but, I'm REALLY set on getting my Earth Shelter started!
All the money I raise within these next 2 years is going to my Earth Shelter. I've already hid away 50$ bills in a giant beer bottle in my room so I don't ever feel the need to spend it!
PM me and we can go from there, if you like. |

Nicolai, I'll go read your Earth Shelter thread so I have a better idea about you and your hopes for the future. I'll get back to you soon.
Thanks for the interest! _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post. |

I'm in Central Texas, oswald.
The internship is not really designed yet, this is just putting out feelers to see if there is any interest. Thank you for yours! _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post. |

Well it has been almost nine months since this has
been posted, just wondering how things worked out.
I am looking to work on a farm along the northern
border with Canada - Montana, Idaho, Dakotas, etc....
I fear the southern border would cease to exist once
the SHTF, with lots of hungry Mexicans heading
north.
Good Luck with your endeavor........... |
