We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

Pops, Skyemoor, and others who are interested:
I thought of a way we might resolve the planning archiving/organization issue without having all the threads continuously at the top. We could have one sticky Archive post, and link to all those other threads there. That way they wouldn't bump other new topics off the front page unless they were actively being posted to, but they would always be very easy to find.
What do you think? _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

I'll volunteer myself to make the Archive post with all those links, if people think it's a good idea. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

Interesting idea. We could even add others over time (such as the Composting thread and others to follow). We would need to name it something descriptive, such as "Shortcuts to important subject threads" or the like.

Yeah, it would need a good title. I figured it would serve the same purpose as the prioritized threads, but would keep the front page open and be easier to edit. We could just edit the post as needed, rather than re-prioritizing all the threads to keep them in alphabetical order.
Agree about the condensed archive Pops was interested in, but that's sort of a different subject. I could possibly make a text file of all those threads and link to it. That would take a while but I would be willing to do that as well. Editing out the chaff, though, is probably beyond my time and patience resources at the moment. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

Jeez, my time lag in responding just goes to show you how much I read the stuck threads!
Anyway, I think your idea is great Shanny, disregard my lack of a response till now.
I appreciate you volunteering to build the “directory” thread. I guess you know how to stick it at the top and unstick the others. Perhaps when you are done a post to the New Forum Layout thread is in order or even deleting the entire thing to be replaced with the directory.
And Sky is right about the condensation, it seems a little beyond our means at this point. A few of us merging up abandoned threads a few months old to the appropriate directory linked threads might be the best we can hope. _________________ Make a plan and work it:

Here's a random idea I just had while reading this.. How about posting the thread into some sort of wiki where everyone could edit and refine the information shared there? Or is there too many opposing views for that to be sucessful?

You must be logged in to edit it. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

Overall, that would IMO provide the most concise way of capturing the vast multitude of information fragments throughout the threads (except perhaps for a easy to print .pdf).

I knew about the wiki, but what I meant was post the threads into it or something where everyone could moderate the (old) discussions and boil down the chatter into useful, more easy to follow stuff.. It would need to be "browseable" not just searchable, if you know what I mean.
